poor knowledge and biased view of author
by jobby on May 25, 2005 07:47 PM

the sub 35k laptops offered by acer running on celeron M are 256 RAM and 40GB is 2.7kg add a wireless card for internet and it won;t cross 3kg.
Author seems to know only about centrino and windows. author is highly biased towards centrino. where are the public wirless internet spots to use, even if you have wirless card on board? wireless spots in india only exists in very few locations, that too used by companies for their use. celeron and AMD are as good and comes at a cheaper price. while the author is talking about budget, he is not taken into account the primary use of laptops, which for most persons is surfing web and office works. xp will run on celeron and for that matter AMD chips also.
Author is misleading on OS and processors.

What about Macs
by Navir on May 25, 2005 06:07 PM

the author hasnt even spoken about macintosh's. apple makes the best laptops in the world, no question about it. ever used an apple machine, they had 6 hours battery life about 4 years before centrino. apple powerbooks have slot loading drives, back lit keyboards, and amazing design. and of course best of all....no windows

You will get best value for money if buy an AMD processor based latop.
You cannot beat the price-features ratio on the Acer Aspire 3002
[ http://www.acer.co.in/products/notebooks/aspire3002.html ]

For ultimate performance on games and multimedia check out the stunning Acer Ferarri series
[ http://www.acer.co.in/products/notebooks/ferrari3400.html ]

The author (Sachin Lele) has not written a fair article, why buy a more expensive low powered, less featured Intel processor based laptops? Choose AMD.
I have AMD Athlon 64 based desktop and laptop - they are unbeatable in price / performance compared to Intel options.

i completely agree. AMD Athlon 64 based processors provide us with the best options - both economically & performance wise. In addition, we know that we can use the new 64 bit apps to be coming soon.

Depending on our mobility we can choose between a mobile or a workstation replacement Laptop models for higher battery life, at a small increase in cost.

As, most of us need laptops due to our freq movements, across cities & countries. though at the same time req. best performance :

- Wt. no issue as it's used mostly used plugged at home
- same for the battery life

Screen & keyboard should be full size & of good Quality as we use it for long periods.

Option of attaching external Monitor, Keyboard & mouse is a big plus for ease n comfort.

Compaq with AMD cpu provides the best options with prices starting from 45k.

I completely agree with you SC, amd is the way to go. Fast, cheap and great performance. People mostly follow the herd mentality. One has it, all will want only that, they feel there is safety in numbers. Do they know that 3d gaming requires the highest power from a computer? and that all gamers prefer AMD processors in their computers. Is there a connection? is it so hard to guess?
