How do I cope with Rs 1 crore ?
by Anil on Aug 03, 2005 04:17 PM  | Hide replies

I am one of those lucky folks who actually already has a corpus of Rs 1 crore. Yet I am going through a tough time deciding what to do with it. I have only earned money one way in my life - work for someone else and earn a paycheck at the end of the month. Now with this money - courtesy inheritance etc - I want to retire. But I cant seem to make the transition to retirement -
1. I dont know how to invest Rs 1 crore to get a decent monthy income - the only avenue is Post Office Monthly Scheme but the maximum amount one can invest in it is only Rs 6 lakhs.
2. Buying a house is attractive but terribly illiquid investment. The rental income is very poor compared to investment, not to speak of other problems. Besides, right now the real estate prices are very high.
3. Shares are very liquid and high return, but the risk is scary. Besides, I simply do not know how to choose a share and when to exit it. I cant even follow stocks on a daily basis.
4. In the meantime, my money is doing nothing.
5. Retiring and pottering around the house without purpose is also a problem, but this I will find a way to be meaningful.
CAN SOMEONE CREATE THE PERFECT NORISK PORTFOLIO OF RS 1 CRORE?
