ma'am. i am a voracious reader and the Da Vinci Code is one of the best reads i have had in some time now. Religious beliefs apart, to do justice to the book, its truly gripping and surely initiates a thought process.

I presume that the author being a Christian -tries to convert a book which questions the fundamental beliefs of christanity into 'yawn'!!

There's an opinion

Stole my thoughts ... You sure did, reading Da Vinci Code has become sort of a fashion statement. You'll sure notice it if you catch some lousy ads, or serials, or movies.
Well a word of congratulation for Dan Brown would not be out of place though. He has sure engineered a following.

Understanding Criticism
by Manmeet on May 02, 2005 05:51 PM

The book obviously will never get the booker or any other high brow literary award but it certainly has appealed to the public at large. There is a phase when anything written on a piece of paper interests you. If you are still in that phase then Da Vinci ought to interest you.

ahem!

da vinci code was definetly not a yawm. I have never opened a book to find out the first sentence explaining or defining the purpose of the book. Most books I have liked develop slowy yet at a pace to keep me interested.
Da vinci code is an overload of ideas mostly sensational ones and that i feel is its primary weakness.
whatever the standard of the language he has used i could not keep the book down once i read the first page.
As for conversations with god, it is a wonderful book and a pleasure to read. Each time a passage from it gives me inspiration which i think is its objective.
anyways, each to his own.

Appreciate the good things

Happened to read your views.iam a quite a moderate reader, means doesn't get time to plunge into each and every best seller that comes up.
The point is ,so many books are launched nowadays ,which may be critized even more.

so why dont you take up the good points in the book and leave alone the lesser important ones.

you may criticize anything but there should be a strong base for your arguments.

doesnt matter who wrote this article, its still the worst criticism i've read in recent days.it would be better for rediff to employ a person with a sense of knowledge in regards to literature.dan brown has done a tremendous job with 'da vinci'.angels and demons is the next best with the reader getting loads of information about the rome, vatican, and the papal elections.the person who wrote this article should infact try reading,'adventures of tom sawyer' and 'nora roberts'and reviewing them.that would be a great practice lesson for a future. This article,is nothing but a blatant lie.Sleep time, geez!

Way too rude
by Bhavesh on Apr 28, 2005 10:05 PM

That was such a rude review of a fairly well written book. Dan Brown is no Shakespeare and the book in consideration is classified as "popular fiction". So what we expect is not a literary classic but an action packed thriller which can be read on a train journey.
Personally, I feel that the book starts well, has great research and educates me a lot in art but as a novel it ends in a whimper, a kind of anti-climax so to say. However a Jeffery Archer fan would like to read it once.
Comparing it with other books on Holy Grail is very unfair; its like comparing apples and oranges.
The reviewer is basically frustated and isn't reviewing the book but airing her own philosophies about life and frustations about her favorite authors not being among the most famous ones in the world.
Its a mockery of a review, a really pathetic and ridiculous review.
Much better is expected from rediff.
