One may also scan the documents and store in CD/pendrive/floppy, and keep in secure place. Some, e.g. Yahoo, offer free space on their server ("Yahoo Briefcase") to store files securely where one can upload the documents safely and retrieve when needed.
Good information to get finance papers back. I agree that banks are not responsible for documents kept in lockers since it is natural calamity and not theft. But what about things kept in locker if there is theft during floods. Hope lockers in banks are that much safe from theft.
