what kind of work hours suit you
by K. Srinivasa Ramanujam on Mar 15, 2005 06:53 PM

i'd say , twenty to thirty is the right age to work hard and have sleep as minimum as one's physic allows, and thirty to fifty is the age to move somewhat slowly or relaxed manner and at fifty, one can get voluntarily retired to spend his time with his family and friends. many of indians who retires at sixty finds its too late to enjoy their time. instead they can retire leaving new young fresh positive and dreamy youngsters to take up a job leaving their experience and enjoy their time with family.

Woking hours................
by Nitul on Jan 05, 2005 03:34 PM

According to my perception, it all matters with the kind of profile you are handling and the workload directed by your superior. Am working as Sr. Manager (Marketing) with a local firm and usually have inward timing fixed for 9pm and never is the outward timing a constant one........it keeps on fluctuating from 7pm to anything like 11pm or 12 midnight. Only the benefit goes to my subordinates who are least concern for the work and they leave by dot time - 6pm. We are all aware about the competitive market and the promptness as well alertness required. All this demands for the job to be completed in time, thus resulting into late hour working. Eventhough, subordinates share the burden, but thats only upto 6pm and not more than that.......further than that its you only. I think the similar consequences would be faced by other Middle and Senior Management Executives. We too hate it, but cannot move off from our responsibilities. Even our expectations stands for 9am to 6pm job, but its only expectations that in this competitive market cannot be fulfilled.....Now its that, I have consider it to be part and partial of life..........

Early to bed early to rise keeps one in good health. I think that going to work early always finer. It is more pleasant early in the morning to stretch out to work that the late hours or mid hours or odd hours.
The reverse clock mechanism will give rise to unwanted habits and sleep disorders. Never change the rythm of natural clock, body clock too. It will have great repercussions.

aaaw the night shift blues!
by Kramer on Jan 04, 2005 06:12 AM

Having a call center in India is the norm for several global companies today. In order to meet the growing international demand for cost-effective, customer-oriented call centers, many organizations worldwide are outsourcing these services by setting up call centers in India. But what makes call centers in India such an attractive option? - Well we are CHEAP! but they make a killing in hiring people in INDIA for BPO or call center jobs - Hell in Bangalore to get a job seek a call center you have an accent job done! And the boom grows how long no one knows some say that these jobs will never die. Youth wasted and degree takes a job seeker to such jobs where you give away life for money - how sad employers in India dont see what resources we lose. It's man market people live it love it and get on with life... I forget what day it is sometimes working round the day/ night cycle my potential who knows I would have made a good recruiter.

Office timings
by syed basheer on Jan 02, 2005 10:14 AM

It depends on the volume of work the office has for its workers. A change in office timings, salary structure and of other perquisites is always welcome to a normal worker, that will generate more interest towards his work as Jobs are boring at times. The effects of growing economy of a place can be shown by bringing slight changes, like change timings, extra benefits etc. Job has become easier with the split of work, formation of departments and due to good supervision at times. The timings should be ideal enough to give chance to more number of people to settle down and derive the benefits of a growing country.

Shift System is Harmful
by Manu on Jan 01, 2005 05:41 PM

I really don't think a rotating shift system or any other shift other than 9 to 5 really works. The effect are far reaching. I worked in shifts for the past 7 years, and my health suffered a lot. I finally called it quits after 7 years of shift system and settled on a 9 to 5 job. The work timings of call centres are horrible, and anyone working for long-term in a call centre is bound to suffer much more than he thinks. Call centre jobs can be only a stop-gap arrangement until you can find a better job. All that money a call centre employee gets will be used for hospital bills later on. So, what good is that money if you don't have health. And why the hell should we sacrifice so much for our white masters abroad?

I am a Senior Project Manager in a Construction firm constructing the most infamous National Highway Project. I get up and as bullet released from Colt .32 pistol go for work at 4:00AM inthe morning. My mind is fresh and the planning which is like a photograph in the situated in my grey matter start the job in hand. I am self motivated and have relentless drive. My colleagues have taken to my style of function. My idea is to make my juniors to take responsibilities and take decisions and implement them. If anything goes wrong, I tell them, if anybody asks, tell that this is planning of the Sr.Proj.Manager, so that none will fire them. Ireturn home around 12:00Midnight, all exhausted and sleep for 3 hours. That's all and I'm ready to take on next days job, ready like ammunition released from AK57. Intelligence, Hardwork and how fast you react for a given circumstance. Positive attitude, taking responsibilities, quickest reaction, analysis are the most and over everything Honesty, Sincerity, Confidence n conviction are very vital.
