No Respect for authority???
by vagmi on Dec 16, 2004 07:46 PM

I dont think so... BPO do not offer long term career options.... this statement is partially true. I worked as a support engineer in a growing technology. My technical knowledge soon outgrew the required knowledge for the job. If I were hired directly by the company that outsourced it, I might have been promoted to development, consulting or testing. However, since I had different technical expectations, I had to hop to another company as a developer. That is not bad.

As far as the authority is concerned, BPO managers often see their team as sweatshops. Constantly being driven for targets for somebody else's greed does not really savor in the long run. I can go on but I will stop my rant for now.

1.yes, its 100% true that in a BPO centre, the youngsters quit the job because of pressure at work & at home.
2.the other reason is,when they r often make changes in shift their health get distructed.
3.Cant expect a drastic or dynamic promotion in this field.
4.like anyother office, this work environment has lot of politics & partiality prevailing.
5.last but not the least, the salary package wise, cant expect more in BPO centre, other benefits like gaining incentives & bonus etc is available.
6.They cant take leave for a period of a week or so.
7.In case of reputation in society for BPO is not to the mark.

all the above constraints the resignation of these types of jobs very often by the youngsters. Fresh graduates do come for money on emergency not on the aspect of career oriented.

Retaining BPO employees

Hi,

I would like to stress on the point number one once again. In India, a country which is considered to have the best skillset for the overall IT industry, ITES is not recognized as a part of IT industry. Its simply considered as some other product selling agents(because most of the companies are involved in outbound calls). The guys of age group of 20s have a natural tendency to earn some money and invest in higher education(MCA/MBA). And once they get into the entrance, they can see the bright future options on the horozon.

Nest is that if you see the employees they are coming from good English medium schools (which are considered to produce the best students in the country till now), they are ambitious.

Again, the composition of the employee strength shows maximum are ladies coming from affluent background, and no such ambition they have a tendency to settle down marrying an NRI.

We need to think abot this industry really.
