Is your child a TV addict?
by Inez on Sep 27, 2006 05:08 PM

TV can be a wonderful learning experience for all. Kids especially love to watch and learn - and there's a wealth of good information on channels like National Geographic, Animal Planet, Discovery, Travel and Lving and the History channel. However, like everything else in their young lives, viewing should be monitored. I've seen kids glued to the tube for hours watching cartoons and songs. Who says we shouldn't have entertainment? But we should certainly help our kids widen their horizons

Child TV Addiction

It's important in life what attracts child more,Parents or Television. It should not be debate for
such parents who think of there child.Means they have
time for there child.Every good human is product of their past generations efforts or call it sacrifice. When you decide to have child then it's parents responsibility to take all care.TV is not enough to distract your child from development if you
are commited for his initial development.I have 4 year child. We believe in him & our interpersonal relations.

TV ADDICT.

According to me watching TV is no harm at all.I say this cause now-a-days so many channels have come up that any child who is made to watch channels like NDTV,BBC,CNN etc; can know whats going on in the present world. On the other side channels like FTV,MTV,etc;must not be shown to the young kids where they get to know things before there age.

In my case i dont have a child cause iam not married. But one of my friend named Aleem is too much addicted to television. In order to mointer his viewing his parents must keep him busy by giving him some interesting novels to read or by bringing him into computer world. If atall he is still addicted to watching television than he must only be allowed to watch NEWS or SPORTS channels so that he can know what is going on in the present world.

Limits should be there
by Vasu on Dec 16, 2004 04:18 PM

I prefer to say 'S' if u ask me whether a child is beneficial .

It is in your hands how we use the media. In case of children, we have to teach them how to utilise the TV medium, but not how to use it......

We, as a responsible parents, have to restrict first ourselves and then let them know their limits.

Media is like a knife..... you have to know where to use it.... inside a kichen to cut vigetables or outside to kill somebody. It is up to you....

bye bye
Vasu.

'Harmful' is a very harsh word used with regard to television, coz there are a lot of benefits in watching television too.The authorised people are letting anybody start a channel and play anything on it,then why blame the kids.Just as there is a censor for films there has to be a censor for the television too.And they should be able to filter what is necessary to be played on television and what not.And with regard to watching television all the time.If the parents convince the children not to watch television then it is computers and so play can be enforced only in schools and never back at home.

Addiction to TV
by Niranjan on Dec 09, 2004 12:47 PM

I feel some parents pet their children a little too much and allow them to watch TV without any restriction (like TV in the kids bedroom). Addiction has various negative effects apart from wasting time such as
1. Uncontrolled viewing of irrelevant and sexually explicit contents
2. lack of interest in studies
3. Lack of play - This leads to jeuvenile obesity and lifestyle diseases (such as diabetes etc)

4. Most of all they miss the social experience they would otherwise get in mingling with people.

Of all cities in India, Chennai has got a blessing in disguise in the form of CAS. Children are watching channels like POGO which has positive and educative content.

The best way to get the children out of addiction is to divert their interest.

Games for example can be a good alternative for boys. Get them involved in or encourage them to play games like football, cricket etc

For girl children there are options like dance class, music class.

Most importantly if you notice its us the elders who teach this habit to our kids. We have to be careful enough and restrict our TV viewing time. We cannot expect the children to keep off the TV when we ourselves are addict !!!!
