THESE MINISTERS WORK FOR THEIR STATES.
by dongababu on May 29, 2009 09:05 AM

After assigning the portfolios for different ministers, MA and TN have got better deal Because of NCP in MA and DMK in TN, where as AP is sidelined. It is a known fact from the history that These cabinet ministers of MA and TN do work for their states and not for the country. It is a good sigh that LALU and VELU are gone otherwise all the main projects would hav been sanctioned to Bihar and TN.MA ministers will lobby for FDI for MA state only because of their strong portfolios. So this time AP is a very unlucky state.

Its really sad to see Dayanidhi get Textiles and "Spectrum Raja" retian the IT...its really a shame..dayanidhi made the telcom sector flourish and all Raja did was to reap the benefits of Maran's hardwork and swindling money out of spectrum allocation..

I wish sanity had prevailed in the discussion between Cong and DMK..

No matter who gets what Portfolio !!!
by Guest on May 29, 2009 08:11 AM  | Hide replies

Important factor is the accountability. For ex: Railways created 50K crores even more and how to utilize it for the future of our kids. If Lallu Yadav created the breakthrough in getting more revenue to Indian Railways that's good he got his share. I think without generating any revenue if some minister is grabbing that money it is not going to be allowed and every common man should be benefited with that. The policy of diverting the first class to A/C coaches was a great idea and the most important thing in the railways is the cleanliness. If IR (Indian Railways)is generating tons of revenue it should be used to create the public awareness so as to keep the coaches clean and well maintained. Also, the public restrooms should improve and it should be collected and dumped in a station where it halts more than 5 minutes. I think if there is a will there is a way to do so many things.

Indian railways - stinky trains, board one to travel at least 1000 kms., no sense of booking a reservation sleeper berth, it the same as general, as for 12 hours, anybody and in any number can board a sleeper. Ticket counters reduced with computerised booking, But hey! there is a huge tatkal fraud. Tickets have to be booked 3 months in advance, if not, then use tatkal, where you pay 20 times more. Who won;t pay for tatkal? No one lacks a Rs.1000. Even a street sweeper earns 2k/3k per month .
Trains are not washed in their destination ports. Imagine a passenger in constant use by hundreds for 3 whole days and night, sent back in return journey in same fashion.

No sweepers.cleaners on trains. the beggar boys sweep for a few coins, this is lallo's professionalism. While middle class is looking at planes, the poorer travel in shoddy cargo-like trains, like goats and sheep. Are they( the poor) not humans?

Makes no sense!!

Why there should be ministries of steel, fertiliser and textile? What has govt do to with individual industry? Isn't ministry of industries sufficient? what is need for minister of shipping? It is high time to align the portfolios so that decisions can be taken at a broader level. On other hand, it will allow fewer people to make money!!

Railways MoS for Kerala
by suresh kumar on May 29, 2009 07:28 AM

Hope E. Ahamed as MoS Railway can undo some damage done to Kerala by Lalu and Velu. Dividing a Railway zone of neighbour state to suite his own state, and delaying the track doubling work for the same purpose was the most heneous thing Velu could do as a minister!

Raja gets IT and Maran gets textiles?! What a load of crap?!
by Guest on May 29, 2009 07:13 AM  | Hide replies

Can't believe it. I'm definitely sure it's karunanidhi's plan rather than Manmohan singh's. Karuna deliberately wants to put maran in an useless portfolio so he can make a strong case for ousting maran later and bring in kanimozhi.

Tourism takes a backseat
by sudipta sarkar on May 29, 2009 07:05 AM

Tourism takes a backseat in the Indian economy once again with a minister sharing another portfolio along with it. Whoever, it is Selja, Ambika Soni or Renuka Chowdhury..ministers do not really do much for the progress of their portfolio areas. Its the bureaucrats under the ministers who are often corrupted, prejudiced and not well-informed and powered by red tapism, doing most of the operations. Now if a minister holds two portfolios at the same time, its understandable how much attention will each of the portfolio areas will get. Inspite of the immense volume of resources India has and with a high employment potential both in urban and rural areas, tourism remains a area of neglect and hence like a 'second class citizen' of India as it always has been.
