Independents contesting elections
by swami pudipeddi on May 22, 2009 12:57 PM  | Hide replies

The Ec should put an end to idnependents taking part in the elections. There are several registered parties and one can contest by becoming a member of a party. The Independents are siding with who ever is in a position to convince them for extending their support. What an independent as an isolated person without any authority at his disposal can do? How many independents participated in any discussion in the Parliament on a regular basis? Now some LAD funds are at their disposal but how many utilised them completely for a cause helping the entire constituency? It is waste of public money allowing independents to contest. We should get proportional representation system rather than the present system where the winning people whose votes are much less than 51% of the total enlisted voters of that constituency and representing the majority for 5 years without actual authorisation from the majority of the people of that constituency.

Why Independent candidates? Even regional parties should be disqualified to contest Election to Loksabha. Any regional parties want to contest they should contest only on the recognised national parties. They should select their choice of national parties. Or frame an Alliance, give a name to it, seek recognitional and a separate symbal from EC, contest on the name and symbal get defeated or elected to LS. Any breakage within that formation after elected due to their own or internal difference or if their Parliamentary Party Leader dismiss any one of them or the person resigns on his own he or she should be disqualified ( no one third formula applicable). Now he cannot stand for bye-election on his own; he has to chose other national parties if he wants to contest again. This way we can completely remove independant as well as regional parties. Once they are registered and recognised as regional parties, how EC can allow them to contest in LS Election. If any actor or individual wants to start a political party he should be clear whether he wants to become Regional or National Parties. The EC has parameters to credit the party according to vote share. Comments are invited.

Join and Work with the SYSTEM....

We are a country of nearly 714 million eligible voters, fully capable of conducting an election for such a large electorate and announcing results in one day. So ours is a working model.

As reported, BJP had 46 candidates with criminal records and Congress 41 candidates.

For a change - these businessemn, technocrats and bureaucrats can also try to join these parties in big numbers and work their agenda forward.

If people with criminal records with no individual achievements can survive in a party set-up and get elected, these intelligent and accomplished people should be able to definitely do better.

In fact, they will be very welcome anywhere and they can hit the ground running as all the party infra structure will straightaway be put to work in their support too.

Plus as independents, apart from being able to stand up and be noted - there is only so much one can do to the constituency or to the system.

Like how our overall political scenario needs cleaning up, the political parties also need cleaning up.

Which will happen only if such people with good intentions join parties in large numbers and overwhelm the party machinations.

These group can be the PROGRESSIVE WINGS of these parties like how there are youth wings, ladies wings, "criminal wings" and so on...

The bottomline here is there has to be a significant number of people willing to take this plunge into the parties - or else they will drown inside the party and the system.

True. There is also another route though a long one. Why not these individuals, if they r really interested in changing the system and doing something for the public, first contest in oocal (ward/council) elections and get the support of people through their good deeds from such small posts? There is no easy way up, even for serving the people, unless u happen to be one of the wards of (one of the ) wife(s) of the politicians!

varun gandhi is one of the bjp men with a criminal record. Do you think that his criminal record is deserved?
One of the congress guys said something similar but no action was taken against him.

Whether you are happy about it or not, the fact will remain that Varun spent 20 good days in jail as NSA detainee. Period.

Modi should be kicked out of BJP
by Shankar Lal on May 22, 2009 03:49 AM  | Hide replies

Modi should be kicked out of BJP. He never wanted BJP to win this election as he does not want Advaniji to become PrimeMinister. He even tried very hard to see that Advaniji loses the election from Ahmedabad. Polls were rigged by his goons to vote for the congress candidate in Ahmedabad. Nobody can raise voice against Modi in Ahmedabad as he has full support of all the underground goons in GUjarat. Now few of the leaders from BJP unit has come out against Modi by telling the truth to Advani and other national leaders.

Producing doctored EVMs is child’s play: Computer chips that control the EVMs can be easily programmed to do all kinds of improper manipulations. For example, after a certain number of people (perhaps hundreds) have voted, the rest of the votes may be channeled to a chosen candidate. This is just one among many mischievous tricks possible.

deetee, in that case, EVM should register 100 % voting. So, obviously, your theory is faulty.

You are wrong Mr.Sukumar. It need not be 100%. Coz, after a certain threshold of voters is reached, the votes can be rerouted to a specific candidate then on for each vote that is recorded. So, it will NOT be 100%. deetee's statement is valid.

Yes, we should send MODI to TALIBAN controlled afghan areas. He is the one of the most wanted Anti National to rest of India to kick out from Indian Politics and it is good that BJP is showing him as the next PM dreamer so as to get power for Congress in another 10-15 years.

unless the people start voting for the right candidate and not for the party..things will not change. The anticidants, background, experience and honesty of the candidate to do something for his/her consituency should be considered and not the false promises of the party sitting 1000's of kms far...

Totally agree. I have been trying to propagate this view for some time. If majority of our voters simply voted for the best suited candidate for each and every election, without considering caste, religion and party affiliation, thet alone will motivate the party bosses to induct good, honest, efficient, capable and progressive people into their ranks.
This is the only way forward. Never be part of any cadre, or try by your vote to bring a particular party in by voting for a second rate candidate. Simply analyse all the candidates, and vote for best in YOUR opinion.
Viva la democracy!
