cho is surprised that the upa won?
by Nandakumar Chandran on May 21, 2009 01:20 AM

everybody is. the evms were rigged. no other answer to this "surprise" victory. and yes it is good that a single party got a decisive vote. but with the upa that can be dangerous as they might surrender national/strategic interests to the usa ala the nuclear deal.

AB Vajpayee's achievement
by Srinath Reddy on May 21, 2009 12:00 AM  | Hide replies

Indira Gandhi led India to nuclear test in 1974 at Pokhran and made sure that Pakistan did not do such test. AB Vajpayee led India to nuclear test in 1998 and encouraged Pakistan to do such test. Now Pakistan has stockpiles of nuclear arsenal and has become a headache for the whole world especially India. I wish AB Vajpayee had acted more smartly and pressurised Pakistan to not conduct the nuclear test. All their stolen nuclear technology would have gone useless, had they not tested it then. Now AlQaeda and Taliban are close to acquiring these nuclear weapons, What could we do as a responsible country ?

There is reason to believe Pakistan had started acquiring nuclear technology on the sly as early as the 1980s, which is precisely the reason why India tried to conduct nuclear tests in PV Narasimha Rao's time itself. Rao's government failed to keep it a secret and Uncle Sam promptly stepped in to armtwist a nation which, at that time, seemed to be perpetually armed with a begging bowl. Vajpayee's government merely successfully carried out what should have been done several years earlier.

What Indira Gandhi did was to take the credit for Manekshaw's stunning victory over Pakistan, and yet squander away the incredible advantage India had gained.

Centra election results
by Awdhesh Kumar on May 20, 2009 10:10 PM

Some of the states like Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttarakhand had predominantly doomed NDA.Punjab too has left much less than expectation. Surprisingly, Karnataka has done exceedingly well inspite of recent odds with Bar girl agitation.
BJP ruled Rajasthan had done tremendous amount of developmental works in the state under Vasundhara. However, infighting among BJP cadre has doomed it.Central leadership didn't intervened in time to control.
BJP has to put his house in order firstly. There are too many leaders and too little workers left in it.RSS v/s non-RSS is a big reason for infighting.Unfortunately,RSS led ministers too had been too demanding.
Congress could encash its developmental agenda, strong central leadership, highhandedness by leftists in previous govt etc.
Mendate is unexpetedly for Congress.Public has now very high expectations from Manmohan singh lead govt. Inflation, unemployment, rural poverty, corruption, terrorism, black money, infrastructural dev, sensitive govt machinery, SME industrial growth etc are to be tackled effectively and decisively to retain public confidence.
Indian voters are silent but intelligent. Past experience show that it can throw out anybody, howsopowerful he or she may be. This veerdict is going to be the litmus test for congress.

Often mistakes are forgotten under thick skin of arrogance

It is true L.K.Advani is standing alone on one end when MMS has the support of entire nation coming together to produce a formiddable force but..
Govt. has to comeout clean on M.Ps flashing bribed money in LokSabha.
Need to have guts to tackle terrorism with open mindset.atleast they don't have to worry about minority votes for next 5yrs.
Govt. has to put a check on raising inflation and the commodity prices.
Bring the populous people below poverty lane into prosperous circle so that they can win bread and butter on their own by creating jobs and self employment.
If the Govt. fails in any of the steps and focus itself on appeasing politics and populous schemes the youth would never forgive. Any mistake that we do now would cost our future! The Chances our country has now to prosper it never had before.
God has been kind to our country and knocking on our doors. Open with wide arms and kiss him!

One more thing. Amend the constitution for biparty system. Let all forces split on either NDA or UPA side and allow people decide on either one of the alliance. We cannot bare the brunts of small ants.

CONG won, but NDA did not lose heavily
by Chandran KR on May 20, 2009 09:42 PM

The arrogance of Chandrababu Naidu and Jayalalitha who thought they can win without joining forces with BJP is what cost them dearly. The Cong just gained from the foolishness of these regional parties. If these parties had joined NDA it would have been a different story. They overestimated Left front strength. Thank God, there is no Third Front now. Hope these people join hands with BJP and have the decency to sit in opposition, rather than going behind Cong like the lousy Samajwadi party and BSP.

by politics on May 20, 2009 09:42 PM

In 1992, Sonia had revived her citizenship of Italy under Article 17 of the Italian Citizenship Law [Act 91 of 1992]. Rahul and Priyanka were born Italian citizens because Sonia was Italian when she gave birth to them[Italian law based on jure sanguinis]. (see Annexure-19) Hence, they continue be Italians since they have never renounced their citizenship upon becoming 21 years old. Both, Rahul and Priyanaka have been traveling abroad on Italian passports. They may now acquire Venezuela passports too, since Rahul Gandhi’s wife, Veronica, is a Venezuelan. That means one more foreign bahu for us tolerant Indians. The Maino-Gandhis are certainly getting Indian society globalised in their own selfish way.

Desirable is not desirable
by Chandran KR on May 20, 2009 09:27 PM  | Hide replies

His papa Rajiv Gandhi was also desirable; but he supplied arms to LTTE, then sent IPKF to Sri Lanka, the IPKF soldiers were trapped by sri lanka tamils and then butchered by LTTE, finally had to withdraw IPKF whose sacrifices fighting somebody else's war were not even recognized and finally the same Frankenstein monster killed him in a brutal manner, just like his grandmother (who created another Frankenstein monster Bhindranwala) was killed by Sikh terrorist sympathisers.

Try to read some history books or ask some Army guys. General Sundarji called Rajiv Gandhi a liar and quoted Sir Walter Scott "Oh what a tangled web we weave, When first we practice to deceive" This quote was in regards to the Bofors lie and swindling done by Rajiv, Sonia, and Quattrochi
