Main reason for bad performance is confused strategy. They want Hindu people to come together but they shy openly saying. Today every relegion wants to grow their members except Hindu's. As long as Development and Religion can go together , nothing wrong. If no political party stands for Hindu's then after next 20-25 years , you will see Hindus becomes minor community in the world.

if u see the events closely in this elections and in 2004 elections some similarities r there
in 2009 elections
congress and media gave hype to varun gandhi for his alleged speech....
in the begining bjp stays away then in the end they have to stand behind varun...
congress very well aware that varun will win that seat, but what they did is they showed the communal face of bjp via media....and gave varun pilibhit but took so many of bjps seats
and in the end congress got seats all over india, and bjp and its allies lost heavily....
same scene in 2004 when they blew up modi issue, that time even vajpayee accepted that due to modi the image of india has been badly affected, but later the other leaders of bjp stand behind modi, and the result was same
in 2004 bjp was riding on high sky after completing 5years of rule successfully...
in 2004 bjp's india shining and in 2009 bjp's pm candidate in waiting....but flopped badly....

Muslims anyway never vote for BJP, so supporting Varun or not supporting him did not take away BJP's votes in UP or elsewhere. In UP, muslims ahve shifted their loyalty from Mulayam to Congress, if they had not done so, Mulayam would still have been the winner and congress could not have dreamt of getting those many seats in UP. So Varun is not the CEMENT to discredit BJP and credit Congress.
The overall election results clearly states that NDA was fighting election without home work. Even if they had won 200 seat, how could they formed the govt. with no party willing to support them.
I think it is the end of BJP arenaor else they will have to bring some charismatic leader in their party.
People of India will not study from past lessons.Because of Congress's rull for 60 years India still a poor country. Only in city you can find rich people. Indian people is going to suffer severly for their act.All congress leaders swiss bank account to get full of money.Now new slogan of India is "Do corruption,get votes". Set aside "jai javan jai kissan".
