Defeat of pettiness
by swati seth on May 18, 2009 08:14 AM  | Hide replies

This clearly shows how the indian voter has become more aware. Mr Advani instead of talking about issues like poverty, unemployment, etc started maligning a person whose track record is absolutely clean and who's known for his honesty and sincerity. Hence they paid the price. It seemed BJP had no agenda of their own. They were only targetting Congress. I don't care if India is under dynastic rule or not, provided whoever is at centre is working towards the betterment of the country. I fear if BJP comes to power they'll divide the country and the whole country instead of thinking about progress would be participating in rath yatras. They still haven't learnt their lessons from the misleading 'India Shining' campaign. Under Congress rule Sensex jumped over 21,000 but no one made an issue out of it because Congress knows that this is not the true mark of economy doing well. However, when sensex touched 15,000 BJP started attributing it to their success as a government. Selling PSUs (some of which were profitable) and generating money is not good governance. People nowadays are not fools. The silent majority has gone to Dr Singh and it's his image coupled with his intelligence that has tilted the electorate. So I don't understand why is BJP surprised. Any intelligent man would vote for Congress looking at the 2 leaders and their cabinet.

One needs to go and see the detailed results on EC. The main states are AP, TN , Maha and Rajasthan. In AP Chiranjeevi spoilt the TDP chances and allowed the Cong to come. In TN the Viaykanth's party ate int AIADMK votes.
In Maha MNS ate into Shivsena and BJP votes. In MP and Rajasthan BSP considerably spoilt the BJP chances.
If you see the Independents and unrecognized parties getting massive 3 fig votes. Their additon is more than the margins of victory.
1) make Voting Compulsory
2) Keep the deposits to 1 Crore so that minor parties will out and sincere person will file hsi nominaton.
3) have " Vote from any where " after swiping Your election card .
The techies and educated are not coming to Booth. It is the painters, Safai karmachari, Plumbers, Rickshaw pullers, Casual labourer's , farm labourers who are votin in large nos.

BJP IS where it was before
by xyz brain on May 18, 2009 08:04 AM  | Hide replies

the only change is congress capitalised on left seats.left with all its hue and cry about nuclear deal damaged their own image and it served up congress. bjps only losss compared to 2004 was BJD. otherwise it is where it was. an voting for upa also shows the stupiditiy of indian ppl. 4 yeras of high inflation, bomb blasts and wat not. 6 months before the elections upa floods the ppl with sops from 10rs reductoin in petrol to doling out 65000 crore rupees as loans to minorities thru psu to wat not. again the voter falls for the bait. now again the same cycle will repeat 4 years of trechery and again 6 months of paradise before and after elections. india will go no where.

exaggeration of facts this is what u can do best....

do some introspection and see for urself...

inflation had been 6 to 7 percent during NDA regime...Terrorist attacks have been there during NDA regime as well...and u know...if u call a 20 billion people as fools and stupids I really doubt ur intelligence....

yes for people like u....we are fools and stupids...

Development is a coherently followed method....its not due top one point but collective and coherent effort which can take many years...

if shelling out 65000 crore package to farmers had been so bad then our business institutions would have reacted...however sensex always sowed the solidarity and did not dip to the extent world economy did...

and I must say some on UPA govt schemes were really very good pointed towards poors poeple....

lastly u should go to the public and ask them about the governance...and should not make comments by reading biased news...

Compare the governance provided by NDA and UPA...

can I say u were rather very happy under NDA regime...I just compared and saw whats better...

Best religion
by JohnVenkataRaman on May 18, 2009 07:43 AM  | Hide replies

Among all religions Hinduism is very simple and gives "freedom to think" to its followers.
But when it comes to ruling a country religion should be kept out.

Hindus don't need bodyguards
by B M on May 18, 2009 07:34 AM

BJP failed to realise even the staunchest Hindus are not interested in a party that merely promises to be a bodyguard for the Hindus. Did the old fossils in BJP - Advani, Rajnath Singh project any other agenda? Did they manage to convince people that they have any vision for India? The answer is NO. There was noting positive in BJP's agenda. If BJP has to stop further slide, it must first honour Advani for all good that he has done for the party and then send him into retirement. The same should apply to the most of the older brigade.

i do not agree completely on this article
by praful kujur on May 18, 2009 07:00 AM  | Hide replies

dear sir,
You yourself have mentioned whether the BJP stand for all hindus or only a few, you have the result infront of your eyes. Why are you surprised at the election results. Is India's 80% and plus population not hindus? If they wanted the so called BJP, as a hindu party then I do not see any problem BJP coming to power at the center. It is the BJP leaders who are hurting the ethos of HIndus, it is nothing to do with Congress. It is BJP which is wrongly representing Hinduism to others. Did you you not listen what the BJP leaders like Advani, Arun, Modi were commenting on Congress party. Those fools instead of presenting their own agenda, speaking ill of other parties, is what did them in. Another thing is that, there are no proper leadership in BJP. You remeber when the Mumbai terror attacks occured, it was BJP leaders who were very keen to attack Pakistan and declare a war. What would have happened if BJP was in power at the center then? Do they have heads to think properly except attacking others. Thanks to Congress which kept the country together, and still keeping together. During the economic recession too, Manmohan Singh as cool economist saved the indian industries. And mind you, in America about sixteen to seventeen banks went bankrupt, but not a single indian bank was even shaken. All credit goes to Manmohan Singh. And as far as the progress of the Republic of India is concerned as whole, see for yourself . Praful Kumar.

Ever wondered how 2 % Brahmins can impose their hegemony over India ..They float a party BJP -which for all practical purpose is Brahmin Janata Party.
Vajpayee , Murli Manaohar joshi , Sushsma Swaraj , Arun Jaitley , late Pramod Mahajan , Brajesh Mishra , Sudheendra Kulkarni , Tarun Vijay have one thing in common .. they all are Brahmins and want a Govt for the Brahmins , by the Brahmins and of the Brahmins .. They are no more than 2 % in terms of population ..but how do they control India .. they do that by dividing society ...
Brahmins dominate the polity , bureaucracy and will do anything to hold on to their vice like grip .
I have a lot of love and respect for fair minded Brahmins but at the same time - they need to understand that this message of hate cannot fool all the people all the time

The 20%--80% connundrum
by Ramesh Murthy on May 18, 2009 05:20 AM  | Hide replies

After these elections I am sure of one thing! Congress once again succeeded in dividing to Rule! Other 'Jaichands' like Lalloo ,Paswan,Mayawati,Jayalalitha and That dement karunanidhi and Andhra congress illegal appeasement handouts (like religion based reservations which are ruled unconstitutional) has not helped! The visceral hate spewed by English language media including Rediff has not helped! I really dont know what this stupid B Raman has to say, but he seems to be another rat who is rearing to leave the sinking ship!We have a generation of Indian youngsters who neither have a historical background/knowledge (thanks to commie/McCauley inspired false history taught in schools and the Hindu hating which is indoctrinated by schools with a missionary zeal) voted for what they think will be infrastructure development and rural development for which Rahul G paid abundant lip-service! 5 years later they will rue their decision but by then the damage would have been further cemented and congress will fill all institutions including the Supreme court with their Stooges! The influx of malafide population to upset the demography of the north east will carry on unabated and the jihadi infiltration from Nepal and pakistan will redouble! Even God cant save any one who refuses to save themselves! Hindu Apathy and the misplaced confidence of the Hindu affluent community, who think that they will continue to make money no matter who rules, will once again make us slaves in our own country

you (nor me) can profess to know more about what other people want. we can not downgrade a voters intelligence in this manner by conspiracy theories.
agreed money power and muscle power (to lesser extent because of vigilant EC) was used. But it was a level playing field with everyone using these two abundantly to woo the people.
If someone wants status-quo it is his choice and if he is damned for this decision, then so be it. We can not pass judgement just because they are against our views and we have a macro view of things. BJP gave full throttle to the fears mentioned in your post, Myawathi(may she die soon) tried all manner of social engineering, CPI and other commies were never restricted in any manner and they have NOT complained about riggingg.. and in spite of this if the electon results favour the CONG(I), it is their prerogative to say that the result is because of Rahul, Priyanka.. their driver, mason or whoever it is..
We can continue to crib about dynastic politics, but ultimately it is the people who are the judge and if they want it... so be it

True! very well said I agree that what ever happened was NOT RIGHT but Bush did get a first and a second term! I suppose you are right! people only get the governments they deserve! The Tories misruled for 18 years and the Labour are now mis-ruling till next year! The saving grace is that WE get a chance to throw people out once in 5 years! In the interim the growth and progress occures INSPITE of governments NOT because of them!

Nisha Shukla
Here is what BJP did wrong
by Nisha Shukla on May 18, 2009 03:13 AM

1. Obviously Muslims never voted / will never vote for BJP. However in this election BJP managed to alienate other minorities like christians, sikhs etc as well. In past I had seen most Sikhs and even christians supporting BJP. As of now they alienated all.

2. They were totally clueless of youth power. It slowly became a party of 70 people. So obviously 20 voters (I am talking about voters who goes to vote) is gone.

3. They lost at root level. Tickets were given to people, who don't have any personal charisma as well as have no ideology.

4. Finally BJP managed to even alienate women as well. The events like Mangalore and statements of Naqvi like people costed them dear with modern women. I was a polling agent for BJP in a very rural area. I campaigned for BJP. However the young women of rural India who go to city for their education almost were scared of BJP. Most of them were afraid to the extent thatif BJP comes in power, they will make sure that no girl goes out of home.

So bingo, they alienated all Muslims, All christians, sikhs, women, their workers. So now who exactly is left.

In the place where I campaigned, our candidate even lost bail amount. It was very obvious that he was going to lose because he was given ticket just because he knew party president. Imagine our seat was won by BJP for 3 continuous time till 2000 and now they give tickets to unknowns who are friend of presidents.
