All this is analysis is plain rubbish
by anand ganesh on May 25, 2009 10:44 AM

The singlemost important reason for BJP's defeat in 2004 as well as 2009 is its absence in AP,West Bengal,TN, Kerala and UP-These 5 states accoount for 224 seats. If BJP is keen on winning 2014 Lok Sabha, it should ensure that it is either the ruling party in these states or the principal opposition party in the state assembly of these states by 2014.

* Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi have an undeniable and unprecedented advantage to represent national integrity and social harmony even in remote villages of India.
* Because they REPRESENT Pars1 ,H1ndu, Musl1m and Chr1st1an cultures in India.

they represent only their family. They will never lift India out of its ills-as their family could not do it in 60 yrs.

Raman is not very good at prediction, only at postmortems
by john thomas on May 20, 2009 05:05 PM  | Hide replies

B Raman, although he does spew out a lot of facts, has never been able to predict anything. His analyses of why something happened are long and usually leave me with the question: if you knew all this, did you tell anyone to take steps to prevent this act? Are you suggesting anything that can be done now to prevent such things from happening?

Hey John,

The guy who predicted the future was another Raman from Bangalore. He has long since passed. This Raman is just a journalist holding a mirror not a soothsayer.

Huge effort by Mr. Raman..
by Devadatta Bhaumik on May 20, 2009 03:36 PM  | Hide replies

With due respect to Mr. Raman, he must have scrounged and scoured to produce these gems from the Hindutva websites. Normally these sites are full of crude material denouncing: Hindus who do not agree with their sectarian outlook, Christians, Muslims, Westerners, and anyone arguing for religious harmony. They are full of crudely written chauvinist comments which in civilized societies would be classified as hate speech bordering on ra8cist/ extr8emist ideas. These websites advocate religious fundamentalism, hatred, violence. They are utterly humorless, full of a sneering attitude, inferiority complex, and are characterized by violence of language and advocacy of cruelty against dissenters. It is frightening to read the stuff written in these sites and these sites represent the terrible dumping down of human intellect. It is estimated there are about 600 of these poison-spreaders on the net, there are even some specializing in vilifying particular religions, culture, class of people. It is a hate-hell out there.

It must have taken Mr. Raman a huge effort to sift those sensible remarks from the mount of filth available..

Oh, the sneering, hate-speech-filled Bhaumik has given his gold star to B. Raman. Raman, your life's work is now done, you can retire in peace now that Bhaumik, the authority on everything, has spoken.

Bhaumik clearly has never read Communist, Muslim, or Christian sites, despite being a Communist fellow-traveler. It would curl his hair (if he had any) if he ever read them, or even watched their TV programs. It is hard to imagine anything more crude, vicious, and racixxxst than the Christian evangelists on TV.

BJP wake up?

"Beating up couples on Valentine dates or trashing pubs/nightclubs will alienate these folks. The Hindu forces should be geared to fight Taliban [Images]isation and not become like the Taliban. Believe it or not, of all the good things you do one small infraction is all that is needed for the media to show you like a demon. The zealots played into the hands of the media like fools. For a youngster in Chennai who has heard of BJP and other Hindu right movements, he would know little of what great work these movements are doing in Gujarat or Haryana. But he would hear from the media when a couple on a Valentine date get beaten up. That would be his impression of the Hindutva movement.'" -

the above para is something for all of us h1ndu's to seriously introspect about. we must change ourselves with times and be united and geared up to meet challenges like from that of 1slamisation or talibanisation. or else we are doomed for sure. from our experience of surviving 1slamic invasions for more than a 1000 years we hindu's seem to have learnt nothing at all.

I agree with you.But don't you think that beating up of girls in pub was blown out of proportion? Please think it in the light of Srinagar girl, who was travelling in a rickshow with two jawans in civil clothes was dragged from the rickshow and beaten mercylessly in tdhe full view of public. Her fault? She was Muslim and that she was accompanying jawans.Which was worse crime? Drinking in the pub with the strangers or merely travelling with jawans in Srinagar. Is it not corrupt mind that the muzlim thekedaars thought or suspected that she wanted to please the jawans. And even if she had those intention what these watchdogs of Islam had to do with her liberty on the line the Ram sena wallah had no business to disturb pub girls liberties.

See the problem was BJP should have clearly disassociated itself from Ram Sena and condemned such acts in all fora. It was wrong on BJP's part to let the media create an impression on the people that Ram Sena's idea of Hindutva was the same as BJPs'. The Republicans in the U.S. are highly conservative than the BJP in their rightist idealogies. But, overtime they have masked controversial issues in politically correct moves in public while retaining the ideology for backroom strategies. In fact the Republican perversion would make BJP look like Gandhi. BJP should learn to adapt and appeal to all forms voters while retaining its true convictions. A good benchmark would be for an urban BJP supporter to be able to sit with his/her Muslim-Christian friends and tell them how BJP is good for all of us and get them to agree.

Where Muslims are in majority, that is expected, look at the Islamic world, it happens. But Hindus are expected to behave above such Islamic fundamentalists. Ram Sena was out of line....
