SDF deserves to rule SIKKIM
by nasir iqbal on May 17, 2009 12:44 AM

i have a very first hand exprience in Sikkim, I have seen Sikkim evolving from a rocky poor hilly track to a major tourist destination.Sikkim has done the things what Darjeeling could not.Though i m from kolkata but i m a regular visitor to Gangtok.i m not at all surprised by the assembly result outcome.SDF has done sufficiently well in last decade, atleast one member of each family is in Government Job thats almost a government norm...so whats harm in it??Infact Sikkim in some respect should be followed by other state as MODEL of developement.Crime rate is lowest here and problem of law and order almost non existant...So if SDF is having pro incumbancy factor, none should be surprised.SDF deserve to rule SIKKIM with this kind of thumping majority.WEll done SDF.

Sikkim: SDF heads for assembly landslide

It is of great concern I state, that people of Sikkim are not willing for a change even after 15 years of SDF rule. The statistics works for itself... Sikkim is a small state with a population of 8-9 lakhs, everyone in the state root for a government job... 90% of the population is scared to do something new... (like moving out of the state for a job). They seem comfortable where they are. May be it is the culture... moreover, most of the businesses in the state are run by giving "hafta" if not weekly, every now and then... corruption in the state is at its worst. The state television is owned by Mr. Pawan Chamling, Mr. Chamling owns a few hotels, a few pertrol pumps, a few houses and so on... and so are the other ministers and government employees. Only 30 to 40 % of the grants from the central government is actually used for the people... rest gets divided among the ministers... Every engineer, lawyer, doctor and so on who is in the govt. job is a millionaire..., they may from the heart want a change... but they are scared about a new government, which could have the same mentality. Businessmen are scared because, they may have to deal with a new government and have to give a larger "hafta"
