Singh is strong
by ANAND Bommabathula on May 16, 2009 09:53 PM

So its proven now that the youth has shown the confidence in Congress and Dr. Manmohan Singh. What has been said about the PM has been proved to be wrong. BJP's campaign of 'weak PM' backfired. People must understand that our PM has a unique style and approach of working, thats because of his previous beaurocratic responsiblities and roles. His approach is to work as a team within his authority. BJP wanted to potray this as a weakness. Unfortuately for Mr.Advani no-one believed his that story, and that has been proven crystal-clear. If BJP wants to do any good to itself, they have to play a positive role in opposition, and not try to mislead the country with stories like that.

Sad
by prem k on May 16, 2009 08:49 PM  | Hide replies

I am saddened at NDA's defeat, much like I was pleasantly surprised when Congress won in 2004. Just as a change was necessary in 2004, a change was desperately needed in 2009. India just cannot do with a PM who takes Soniaji's permission to even go to the loo.

In my opinion, BJP is in the same position today as Congress was in mid and late nineties. The future appears bleak too unless the party somehow miraculously rejuvenates its cadres and is able to build a base in key large states such as AP, TN, WB, Orissa and Kerala and look at option outside mounting on the backs on unscrupulous allies. BJP today needs a Rahul Gandhi (much as I despise him).

There is a debate on who the next leader in the party would be. Frankly, this debate is a non-starter as the party badly needs workers rather than leaders. Modi's name as a successor has come too early. Only the person who can expand the party's base must be a contender and I am not sure if Modi has those abilities. He has won two elections in Gujarat, but then Gujarat was always a BJP bastion which it has never lost since 1989. In fact, during the earlier years, Gujarat used to send 20-plus BJP MPs to parliament, but now far lesser.

In the early 2000s after Sonia retained the party's presidency, someone quipped that if BJP workers were asked to elect the congress leader, it would have been same. Ironically, history repeats itself and if Congress workers were to elect a leader for BJP today, it would be Narendra Modi!

as long bjp has leaders have leaders like advani and modi they will continue to loose elections.

india does not need rabble rouser leaders who pull down mosques and create riots.

we need leaders who can manage the opposition a quality vajpayee had.

ad vani kept trying to present an image he was tough and MMS was weak . How wrong he turned out to be.

advani's credit is yatras , dharnas, bandhsa and holding up parliament at every whim. does he have anything constructive to his credit. NO.

even now its not too late. let advani apologise for pulling down the babri masjid, it will do good for bjp and for improving the social fabric of the country. the bjp can never come to power without the support of the minorities , so by creating a communal divide , they are axing their own foot.

God also brought the tsunami in which many blameless good people perished.
What does that prove, Sam Sobitharaj?
God most certainly, sits up there, with a huge TV screen, monitoring the elections in India! Jagdish Tytles is a beloved of God and so is Sajjan Kumar. Omar Abdullah was God's beloved when he was a part of NDA, when Modi and the Gujarat riots took place. And God was certainly with Omar Abdullah when he joined the M ullahs to say no
land to Amarnath Yatra.

TRS, TDP and Communists
by Subrahmanyam N on May 16, 2009 08:20 PM

Wonder what happened to all the KCR and Communist fans. Voters have put TDP out of power again. Hostile media coverage hasn't helped TDP or the grand alliance in anyway. Karat dreams of becoming PM have been crushed thankfully.

People taught bitter lessons to some politicians!!
by mallaiah anchoori on May 16, 2009 07:22 PM

All the politicians with capricious stands & utterances have been kicked out by the electorate very rightly.Chiranjeevi who virtually made his party affairs a family drama & was,in the last minute talking in terms of hung assembly & thereby opened his options to join have truck with Congress should bend his head with shame & switch back to break dances in cinemas saying good bye to politics. What a great disgrace to him!He contemplated of forming the govt & becoming the CM while he is struggling even to get 20 seats.Over confidence of Yerram Naidu costed him with a defeat! And the unscrupulous & foul speaking KRC has been shown his proper place once again. As has been the case with him all these years, he once again made fool of Telangana people by siding a losing horse by his whimsical & unpredictable shifting to BJP abandoning his alliance with "grand alliance" Now,he would be neither owned by the BJP led NDA nor would be allowed to come any where nearer to Congress for all his unethical attitude. But shameless that he is,there is no wonder even if he tries to beg the Congress in all finer ways as against the filthy language he always employs against those who are politically not comfortable to him.The defeat of Yerram Naidu in North Andhra & Kadium Srihari in Telangana is certainly a big loss to Naidu while that of Suresh Reddy marginalises the jubilation in the Congress Circles. The poll results taught bitter lessons to some leaders who thought too much of themselves.

Congratulations Dr Rajasekhar Reddy Garu!
by mallaiah anchoori on May 16, 2009 06:48 PM  | Hide replies

This is a decisive mandate to the Congress party for stability of the govt & in acknowledgment of all the schemes introduced by Dr Rajasekhar Reddy who alone needs to be congratulated for the maasive victory conferred.Since beginning even amidst various concoctions aired by the media/oppositions,he has been just maintaining that the schemes introduced by him would certainly fetch them one more term of rule AND this comes true!Congratualations Dr Reddy! It should be construed as your personal victory though some like DS may outwardly try to compliment with all the simmering antipathy for you.Just do not care for such elements. With your distinct walking style which resembles that of a lion, king of the animals (kesari),you really emerged as the most prominent ruler, true to the meaning of your name-RAJA SEKHARA!People have thrown all the gimmicks played by your opponents like Naidu, Chiranjeevi or KRC to the winds & have clearly demonstrated that they only vote for those who really work for them!!But Dr Reddy Garu!Kindly make efforts to cleanse the stigma of boundless corruption that your govt has acquired. That is the only biggest negative factor for your rule & if you wipe it off you are the best ruler the state has till now.Your nepotism to your people & your support to your followers are understandable, but let them not become so conspicuous so as to become a subject matter for the oppositions.Your schemes covered almost every thing that a voter could reasonably aspire for.

You are right Chiranjeevi split the votes and TDP got the benefit of getting atleast some seats. Otherwise, it would have been an absolute majority for Congress.
