Mahasweta, Mamata and the Movement
by Mrinal Dasgupta on May 14, 2009 09:38 PM  | Hide replies

Every word and line can be contested with alternative hypotheses and data. Mamata has no charge of corruption as far as I know. And so hasn't the leadership in the Left Front. So what! Only on 12th May a TV channel showed one of her party's representatives taking bribe in thousands for permission to work and demanding 2.5 lakh rupees for completion certificate, She was giving very compromising advice to the contractor, and was claiming that other Councilors in her party demand more and would not talk even with so little money. etc.

Prediction of West Bengal
by Haramohan Ray on May 14, 2009 09:33 PM  | Hide replies

In 2009 Lok Sabha, the following seats may go to the opposition tally:

1 - Barasat (TMC)
2 - Bangaon (TMC)
3 - Kolkata South (TMC)
4 - Ranaghat (TMC)
5 - Mathurapur (TMC)
6 - Tamluk (TMC)
7 - Berhampore (Congress)
8 - Jangipur (Congress)
9 - Malda South (Congress)
10 - Raiganj (Congress)
11 - Darjeeling (BJP)

The rest 31 seats will go to the left tally.

But, in 2011 assembly polls, the left will do immensely better for two reasons:
First, people will understand the hollowness of the TMC principles
Second, the Congress-TMC alliance will split, because Congress will form the next government at centre with left support

by abc xyz on May 14, 2009 09:09 PM  | Hide replies

People of bengal woken up after 32 yrs....
Huh!
Where were you all these years? Today ur paying for ur mistakes only... Is there any other state in India where a party like CPM were allowed to rule for 3 decades? It happens only in WB coz people consider themselves intelectuals and smart....... and realy they are paying for their smartness. Its not CPM only to be blamed... People also have equal contribution for bringing the state to this level....
Ek haath se taali nahi bajti....
1st people should try to realise that how much backdated they are rather than considering themselves brilliant... then only a change is expected there...

Polytics in West Bengal
by Anindya Bose on May 14, 2009 09:06 PM

Mahasweta Devi is at least true from her heart to accept the fact that she is one with the negative Bengali mindset with an attitude to oppose all positive developments. The lefts came in power by blocking developments and now as an establishment when they are turning positive to take Bengal on the path of growth, the opposition is showing their strength with support from same people with the negative mindset. It does not matter to these intellectuals. They will always find their rubbish staff salable among the people who will value leisure enjoyments above hard work and growth.

sad state of affairs
by Vishal Bahubali on May 14, 2009 08:55 PM  | Hide replies

mamta didi has flipped parties at least 6 times. mrs. devi (who is probably very well respected in
bengal) likens her to mahatma gandhi !!!

how low can mrs. devi stoop !

mamta didi also has the unique distinction of getting a doctorate degree from a non existant
university in the u.s :-) when the lie was caught she blamed it on the commies :-)

Fake doctorate issue is right. Mamta used Dr. Mamamta for some days (about 12-13 years ago) and when it was caught the doctorate was received through corrospondence form a doubtful univ, she stopped using Dr before her name.

I can add to this. She first came into limelight by dancing on the bonnet of Jayprakash Narayan's car. She was in Congress then and was protesting. More importantly, she took off her sari while dancing. Then she stood against Dr. Malini Bhattacharya and added a "Dr." in front of her name to negate her opponent’s academic record. When asked by journalists, she said she is the PhD holder from "University of British Colombia". The University did not exist. When asked about her thesis she said it on "Influence of Mugal Harem on Life of India". Today some pseudo intellectuals are going ga-ga over her. This is crazy!!! Even if we agree that Left has become a monster we cannot think of Mamata in place of Buddha. Communists are much less corrupted than any other Partymen. Can you bribe (with money or power) one MLA or MP to join other party? In Mamat’s party all are like that – Subrata, Somen, Madan, Partha just name them. 80% are criminals.

by Vishal Bahubali on May 14, 2009 08:52 PM  | Hide replies

after the tata nano project was cancelled, mamta didi did not make one single trip to singur according to reports. this was just to avoid public fury.

its a sad state of affairs. mrs. devi claims that the nano project would have given jobs to "300" people !!! so according to her, 300 people are required in a car factory !!! does she know the facts or is she joking.

this interview brings out the true state of affairs with the opposition in bengal. not to say that the cpim is any better but these guys seem to be worse. they just repeat one lie a thousand times and hope that people will take that to be the truth.

Whatever party comes to bengal communist or tmc ,things are not going to change because of lazy bengali mindset.Communist may have destroyed industries in kerala or bengal , but look keralites they go out side work hard and have better living condition.Bengalis talk about past leader think they are great and want everything free .They nor work inside their state or outside .Only thing they are good at is hearing rabindra sangeeth and doing politics everywhere
