My parents live in madurai and they told me that DMK men distributed Rs.500/- for each vote. Currency notes are put up in an envelop and distributed in the colony / flat. Election commission should take serious view of this and debar Azhagiri from contesting the election.

This practice has become so open, that the Election Commission seems to believe it can do nothing about it. On the other hand a man like T N Seshan put the fear of God in all parties, when he was the CEC. Newspaper reports narrated how, party workers campaigning for a candidate, sitting for a frugal breakfast in a roadside restaurant in Ahmedabad, literally left their "nashta" uneaten, and ran away. Because an EC video team was covering their action which would be used to tot up the amount of money a candidate was spending!

Imagine the amount of money that is being spent in this way. If you have a million voters, and you believe a 100-250,000 are necessary for your success, you dole out Rs. 500 to 2.5 lakhs people, you spend 12.5 crores as a direct inducement. Add other costs, and we are talking of expenditure in the region of 50 crores per candidate from the leading parties. The sum total of poll expenditure of all prime candidates will be mind-boggling.
So, for all the fulminations, praise and brickbats we shower at, what we naively believe, OUR LEADERS and OUR PARTY, the parties have a very clear idea of the real core issues involved in getting elected!
Say whatever you will, at a certain level, this reduces us to the status of a banana republic. The talk of India being a representative democracy, with universal franchise...is just that, TALK.

Even if Azhagiri loses, it is no big issue. DMK will award more contracts and earn double the money with vengeance. At the end, you pay taxes and get poor infrastructure.

Before Sonia entered India political scene India was very rich and highly disciplined. There was no corruption in our country and people were happy with no unemployment at all. All our netas were very sincere. Once Sonia leaves India our nation will regain the glory of the past. One of her main fault is that she deprived the nation of watching the spectacle of shaven heads of Uma Bharati and Sushma Swaraj by reusing the PM's post.

Now, after Sonia has entered, the Holy Trinity has ushered in Paradise. We are now the Garden of Eden, Vijayakumar MP?

She is an ambitious, calculating person. There's no way she would have refused the PM's post if it had come without issues. It's more than possible that she did not have the nerve to go ahead, and ultimately acknowledged to herself that she was a foreigner.
