Wikipedia: Bengal third largest economy (2003–2004) in Indi
by Parichay on May 08, 2009 04:12 PM  | Hide replies

West Bengal has the third largest economy (2003–2004) in India, with a net state domestic product of US$ 21.5 billion.[34] During 2001–2002, the state's average SDP was more than 7.8% — outperforming the National GDP Growth.[35] The state has promoted foreign direct investment, which has mostly come in the software and electronics fields;[34] Kolkata is becoming a major hub for the Information technology (IT) industry. Owing to the boom in Kolkata's and the overall state's economy, West Bengal is now the third fastest growing economy in the country.[36] However, the rapid industrialisation process has given rise to debate over land acquisition for industry in this agrarian state.[37] NASSCOM–Gartner ranks West Bengal power infrastructure the best in the country.[38] West Bengals state domestic product (SDP) grew in 2004 with 12.7 % and in 2005 with 11.0 % .[39]

Karat is a 21st era joker

Karat and his wife are detrimental to India's growth. If he comes into power he will make the Industries shut down and will provide employment to the youth as Cadres of the Party.

Zubair: Simple, under the monolithic Communist Party, they have worked out a
vision, a plan to see that China replaces America as the Superpower. All their actions are directed to that goal. If you ignore the brutalities, the massive violations of human rights, which are not reported, then you could admire the single-minded way they are going about realising their objective.

The US owes them trillions of dollars (being the proceeds of the massive trade deficit that the US ran up over the past
decade). The rest of the world does not have the means, and the will to challenge China in any way.

China is leveraging its massive labour force by becoming the factory and workshop of the world. Cheaply produced goods, sold even more cheaply (at less than the cost) to gain market-share, massive investments in infrastructure, SEZs, factories, all these are now being leveraged to dominate markets, keep out competition. Trade, finance is now being used as another, but far more aggressively, aspect of diplomacy and strategic relations.

Third front - how many parties?
by bimlesh mishra on May 08, 2009 04:09 PM  | Hide replies

COngress and BJP together are likely to get about 145-150 seats each..so leaving those 300 seats, there are only 243 lok sabha seats. Now when Mr Karat talks about 3rd front beating congress and BJP both, does he mean he will be successfully able to get all rest of the parties on one platform. Jayalalitha vs DMk, JDU vs Lalu, SP vs BSP, SHivsena, Mamata, Akalis, Ajit Singh, Assom Gan Parishad, SHibu soren, ...karat sir putting them all under one roof is an nearly impossible task.

You will have to propped up by congress or BJP , a govt which in all likelihood wont last more than 6 months.

If third front will come to power the rest of India will become West Bengal minus Kokata.

Minorities specially muslims will have the worst time as the track record of Left is worst than BJP when it comes to providing infrastructure like schools & colleges in the areas of muslims is concerned.Muslims please forget about job in Marxist rule.

People like Somnath Chatterjee & Saifuddin Chaudhary who were a brilliant parliamentarian will be denied tickets and will be subjected to lot of humiliation by the Yachuri & Karat.

The communist are frankly speaking not communist anymore. The are pseudo communist.
