WATER, WATER EVERYWHERE NOT DROP FOR DRINKING!.
by sudhakar sk on May 08, 2009 12:13 PM  | Hide replies

All my GOD's are in all the villeges of rural India;
I truely worship them;
but they are today,
without a drop of potable drinking water.

Ms.Suneeta Narian,
had to go to Supreme Court,
to get a Law on Potable drinking water.

Today, bottled water sells at Rs.13/- per liter,
in the land of Ganga, Narmada, Yamuna
and Saraswati.

Half burt dead bodies of Hindu's are
thrown into Ganga and Yamuna.
Has any Govt. talked about the holiness of these rivers and its pollution and its remidies.

As PM,
Rajiv Gandhi,
allocated Rs.100crores to
clean Ganga
and
the story ended with his untimely death.

This is the irony of India,
and
its false face of Hindutva
and politician who preach it.

Hemanshu Thakkar can write volumes but the reality's are bitter facts.

There are lot of things to cleanse in India - probably that's why no one worries about cleansing of the Ganges.

Signing nuclear deal is an achievement ???In which world r u living ??This was a sell out of the country ( india ) by the UPA govt.The stupid italian waitress Sonia and her equally idiotic son Rahul made it a prestige point of going ahead with this deal.Moreover, with this deal, Congress and its friends will make a lot of money for themselves by agreeing to the terms of the Nuclear agreement.So brother, signing the nuclear deal was certainly not an achievement.In fact, this has been the biggest undoing of the UPA.

It was not made by sonia, Infact she was not in fever. It was made due to man mahon singh. He was rigid about this deal else he would have resigned and it forced sonia to make the deal.

SAND AND SILT
by Suresh on May 08, 2009 10:51 AM  | Hide replies

Apart from the focus on the wrong area for funding, the government has to look at longer term issues. I have visited many dams and have spent time in understanding their effectiveness. Shockingly, many of these dams have silt to almost 50% of their capacity. For e.g, the KRS dam in Karnataka which has a capacity to hold 124ft of water has more than 55ft of silt. So, in effect you are using only half the dam. This has happened because the govt. has not controlled afforestation in the areas from where the water flows to the dam. Since there are no trees, the silt ( Sand, stones and dirt) easily are carried by the water and gets deposited here, rendering the dam half useless. This is the case with most dams I have visited. No one has paid enough attention to this, but are spending money in a hurry.

Super Point. Really Appriciate it. We can do much more to make effective use of existing dams instead of spending much more on new ones.
