When getting elected is based on 20 to 30% polled votes?
by Rajendra Nayak on May 05, 2009 06:44 PM

In this election where ther euphoria bubble that voters will gate crash to vote has loudly burst. People say get lost to politicians.
So there is a simmering protest which may turn out into something in the years to come. People have lost confidence in ballot in a democracy. Next will be anarchy and regional politics.
When 26%, 34%, 44% 56% 78% (in rare cases )have voted and there are large number of candidates in a constituency the vote gets split. In this split, some groups will vote en bloc like Khattar BJP,Khattar communists, Khattar BSP will vote for their parties at any cost. Similarly voters have started voting depending on religion and caste. The two national parties are responsible for the mess called "India". The regional parties talk of rice at Rs.2/-, reservation, projects etc. and if this is not done there will be chaos. Mr. Arun Shourie in his article has clearly mentioned that this is not general election but a local election. The two national parties are staging candidates against their so called allies at the centre and then they say 'face election' if you do not want to compromise. Small parties are shivering the moment the national parties say 'face election' because they have no money. But the country as a united nation is slowly eroding and the regional parties will be in focus in decade or so and then one will see what is going to happen. Each state will have north, south, west and east parties and this will be supported by outsiders in course of time.

The point is that government should be providing basic healthcare to all its citizens free or at affordable cost. Like the givernments in uk, Canda, Cuba , and all over europe do.
