Reason for the hike in assets is mainly due to appreciation of real estate/land holdings. The reporter should have given a break up of assets rather than clubbing them all together and giving a cumulative figure. Appreciation in land value would also show an increase in assets. A pretty short sighted article

The fallacy of Indian Democracy is that Popularity is confused with Capability.

On the issue of wealth of the politicians, the declared value of the assets are all questionable.

In 2001, during an income tax raid on a liqour manufacturer in Bhopal, income tax authorities seized a diary maintained by the distillery's owners. They found the names of several officials and politicians of the state and money written against their names in the diary. Reportedly the diary also listed Digvijay Singh's name with a payment of 100 million rupees against it. Digvijay Singh was chief minister then.Digvijay Singh said that this was a conspiracy by opposition to destabilize the government.

In the Fodder Scam, the funds meant for cattle fodder were diverted from the animal husbandry department. Yadav was one of the main accused in multi-million rupee scam. He accused opposition of creating a conspiracy against him.

yeah, yeah. the state suffers due to corruption. the minister says its a conspiracy against them! LMFAO!!!!

Some of the states like UP Bihar Delhi etc are habitualy Tax offenders hence thier income does not show in Balance sheets but could be much higher.Income for Maharashtra MP candidates will increase manifolds if swiss bank open up.Only one candidate's real assets from western Maharashtra will increase average by 100 folds

Also there should be educational criteria or minimum experience standard.
As well an exam to find out if a person is smart/intelligent enough to contest election.
