CPM takes sides and its terrifying ramifications
by Raghavendra Bhat on Apr 04, 2009 10:59 PM

The CPM siding with the builder lobby is terrifying, it just ignores the farmer's woes of multi-storied buildings coming up next to his land. The CPM election manifesto speaks about farmer welfare, how can it fix its own broken inner-party attitude towards farmers? How can the medium and small farmer survive in land where water is getting constantly depleted by mindless wastage by the builders? How can water be recharged for the next crop cycle to continue?

What has LF done in 30 years?
by Indian on Mar 31, 2009 01:59 PM  | Hide replies

Mr Subhashis, I was forced to write this mail after I saw your responses. I am completely apolitical person but I cannot turn my face away from WB because that is where I belong to. I have few points for you and few questions as well for the last 30 years of LF rule which are:
1)      What has been done for economically backward areas like Coochbehar, Jalpaiguri, Malda, Dinajpur (both), Purulia, Bankura & Birbhum,
2)      What has been done for the upliftment of the state run health units and hospitals? Have you been to National Medical College & RG Kar MC and seen the poor hygiene & infrastructure there? What has been done to upgrade these in the last 30 years?
3)      What has been done in the area of education? BE College lost the chance to become autonomous due to SFI led student agitation.
4)      If WB power infrastructure is the best in the country then why there are so many unscheduled power-cuts due to breakdowns/ unit shutdowns? Compared to this in Gujarat the power cuts are negligible?
5)      You cannot point towards centre for shutdown of various units in WB. Everyone knows about the CITU goons and their effect on factory shutdowns. I myself is a live example. I was in Haldia refinery. During any Bandh called by LF, few of us had to go the refinery to keep running the utilities to ensure there is no unit trip. We were threatened, one of us was beaten up by CITU goons and we knew these people by names. They were often seen in the party office.

Re: What has LF done in 30 years?

Police never took any FIR against these goons. Now would you say that I am only lying? Do you know many people couldn’t set up a downstream PE processing unit because they were demanded huge sum as donation to party fund by your erstwhile leaders I wouldn’t name here.
6)      Hindustan Motor is the only automobile factory. Singur backfired because it was ill-managed with the cadres. Even today the WB Govt has not come out transparently with the Land acquisition process. Engineering industry except DSP, IISCO & Braithwaite is in shambles and limited to Small scale only. Where are the chemical, petrochemical, electrical, electronics industries?
7)      In infrastructure, look at the roads in Kolkata and surroundings. Flyovers are constructed without any life cycle planning. As a result you get the Sukanta Setu, bankim setu which are single lane. Look at how the approach roads to Vidyasagar Setu are maintained. Durgapure expressway has been converted into one way after 10 years of operation. Metro railway expansion has run beyond schedule. New projects are being announced but not executed. Look at Rajarhat. Your Urban development minister has massacred the plan such a way that it will become another Behala instead of a planned city like Chandigarh.
I will be delighted to see your response. You can mail me at cooltwentyfourseven at r’dfmail dot com with your facts and figures.

P.S. I am a hard core Bengali and have stayed in Kolkata as well as in the remote areas and other places in India and abroad. So I assume you’ll send honest feedback instead of trying smart things like your leaders do. I personally have great respect for Mr. Buddhadev. But I hate people like Biman Bose, Binoy Kongar, Prakash Karat who have little substance and no leadership qualities.

Irony of West Bengal
by Merabharat Mahan on Mar 31, 2009 11:44 AM

West Bengal is to witness a Bi-Polar (2 Way) election. The Ruling Left VS TMC and Cong Ally.

And the 42 seats would be distributed among them. BJP / NDA posing almost no chance in here.

THE IRONY IS THEY HAVE BEEN PART OF THE SAME GOVERNMENT AND AGAIN AFTER THE ELECTION BOTH LEFT AND CONG TMC WILL COME TOGETHER AGAINST THE NDA.

why are u after the jute processing industries? can u name all the 19 jute industries. why are u not mentioning Exide , NICCO industrial giants still properly functioning and with profits and where thousands are working.Ishapore Rifle Factory,Central Inland Fisheries Research Institute which promotes fisheries in the area which are still providing prominent source of income there. Why dont u highlight these points to others also : A well developed irrigation system has been constructed in the subdivision to promote agriculture. Low interest loans have also been used to encourage the expansion of farming and the development of agricultural infrastructure. The literacy rate in the sub-division is above the average standard of the state and district.

No Irrigation System have been developed as you FALSELY Claim.

Barrackpore Region is adjacent to the Ganges.Soil is NATURALLY rich. And all Irrigation Initiatives are just Deep Tubewells installed on own efforts by farmers, or have been dependent on Monsoons.

You dont Boast here something like the Narmada Project in Irrigation right ?

EXIDE Industries in an MNC with its first factory in Shyamnagar (Barrackpore Subdivision) and has built all other manufacturing units OUTSIDE the State. Shyamnagar facility has the lowest capicity of production and has been pegged by Left Unianism.

So CPM's effort of even closing down the Shyamnagar Unit wont affect EXIDE Industries. So sorry brother on your party's unholy intensions.

West Bengal has the third largest economy (2003–2004) in India, with a net state domestic product of US$ 21.5 billion.During 2001–2002, the state's average SDP was more than 7.8% — outperforming the National GDP Growth.[35] The state has promoted foreign direct investment, which has mostly come in the software and electronics fields; Kolkata is becoming a major hub for the Information technology (IT) industry. Owing to the boom in Kolkata's and the overall state's economy, West Bengal is now the third fastest growing economy in the country. However, the rapid industrialisation process has given rise to debate over land acquisition for industry in this agrarian state. NASSCOM–Gartner ranks West Bengal power infrastructure the best in the country. West Bengals state domestic product (SDP) grew in 2004 with 12.7 % and in 2005 with 11.0 % . If u want links i can provide the same.

Good statistitian, can u tell me without IT sector what is the improvement in WB? These people once was dead against computer. Anyway can u tell me what is the progress in last 32 years in WB? In every field the CPMisation occures. You know India is also 2nd highest economically growing country, that means that India is progress in all respect. Last 32 years one stable secure government is running, WB should be gold made. But they are doing CPMisation of education, health, industry in every. They are trying to abuse us. Do u know howmuch industries are closed in 32 years due to uneducated commies. Please u support commies, thats ur opinion but donot show statistics that wb is progressive. Dr. PKP. Japan

SOME FACTS and REASONS:

SDP(State DOmestic Product) & Size of Economy: It depends on the output of the Individuals living in the State. West Bengal having the HIGHEST Density (per Sq Km) and Forth Highest Population is bound to have a high SDP, and Big Economy.

Again Subhasis states Jute to be IMPORTED ???

In West Bengal Jute is the BIGGEST Cash Crop.

correctly mistaken. Jute is a cash crop but jute processing industries are importing Jute from Neighbouring Bangladesh, Myanmar. Go to the jute website of Govt of India and see the info. and secondly do u know what all things adds up GDP percentage? Agree that it has among the highest density but what about the SME sector. i am unable to give links as the moderator is deleting the same.
