Freedom of speech
by Rajendra Rao on Mar 26, 2009 02:38 AM  | Hide replies

is lacking in India. While Varun certainly was not tactful in his remarks, there is no ground to file a law suit against him. I have lived in USA for years, and yet to see a politician sued for speeches. I find this alarming indeed for India o bow down to one community.

See, when it comes to secularism, Indian is #1 and USA is not secular. Afzal Guru is safe in India but not in USA. Here politicians go for campaigning with an Osama Bin Laden, look-a-like, standing by side, we are secular. USA gives $25 million reward for Laden dead or alive. In secular India we give Rs. 25 crore reward for the head of the Bush. In indian Freedom of speech law, reading Satanic verses is criminal punishable to death, but i read the book in USA openly. can you see the difference? In india, we are free to make naked portrait of hindu god and goddess or Bharat mata but for Danish cartoon, India can go to war with Denmark. In India freedom of speech means what speech comes out from what mouth. There are some mouths which can say no wrong, and there are mouths which can say nothing right. So freedom is dependent or function of mouth, speech can always be justified.

US has very strong defamation law. And the illicit speech giver would not only go to jail, would lose millions and be promptly disowned by the Party, be it Republican or Democrat.

Wish the grace and etiquette evident in US politics comes to India as well.

If BJP lives up to ABV's legacy, they would automatically be at US levels.

More than Lord krishna
by wellwisher on Mar 25, 2009 11:15 PM  | Hide replies

MK Gandhi and the Nehru dynasty seem to have understood Gita more than Lord Krishna himself. Their conclusion was summarized by Nehru in 1953:
"Hindu is certainly not tolerant and is certainly more narrow minded than almost any person in any other country except the Jews".
The Congress has been peddling this distorted view of religion and history ever since.

Well, coming from a person who was less exposed to H1ndu1sm than 1slam or Chr1stianity (as per his own words), it's quite natural. His only claim as a H1ndu is the name and thats all.

wellwisher,

To understand Nehru read his book Discovery of India; and read his speeches. You will get a true measure of the person and the perspective of his lament. He was quite proud of being an Indian, and no less for being Hindu.

The letter to his Home Minister K.N. Katju which you quoted is perhaps from an article in Organiser by M.S.N. Menon titled -- Think It Over.

The full quote included one more sentence which you missed; ---"..which is The Muslim outlook may be, and I think is often worse, but it does not make much difference to the future of India.”

M.S.N Menon may not be a Historian or a social scientist but he is a well meaning person who has written a balanced article in June 15, 2008 issue.

I DID NOT quote from Menon; Nehru wrote this to Dr R. Prasad not to Katju.
Nehru also advised President Prasad NOT to go for the opening ceremonies of Somnath.
I have read the Discovery which abounds in pro-Muslim and pro-China distortions of history.

Sad to see your conclusions about Nehru and his so called pro-China bias. These are all untrue. This issue is important enough to digress.

We lost the 1962 war but we can win in future ONLY by understanding and accepting Nehru's thoughts and ideals. Germane in his thoughts the future victory.

Why we lost can be better understood by perception of then Indian mindset by a Chinese Professor, who wrote the poem below.

This was written by Professor Xiao Hong Jun
Professor Emiritus, Linguistics Sanskrit and South Asian Studies, School of Foreign Languages, University of Beijing.

" I penned this poem in honour of those who defend our land. The rhyme and metre of this poem has been copied from Ms Subhadra Kumari Chauhan's famous poem Jhansi Ki Raani"

The Chinese Prof had understood Indian weakness rather well, and expressed it in form a taunt.

It is well written and deserves deeper deliberation as a good piece of art.

Nobody made a big issue when PM MMS said muslims community have first sahre in nationl reosurces and his govt submitted communal budjet (a multi-sectoral development plan at a cost of over Rs 4,000 crore for 90 minority districts, Rs 80-crore for pre-matric scholarships and over Rs 45 crore for modernizing madrassa education )
sonia gandhi called elected CM as Moth Ke Soudhagar No action from EC
AR antulay UPA miniser supported pakistani terrorist by giving some crap comments But no big issue meade out of it
SP Amarsingh/ many called Batla encounter as fake insulting brave soldier
But EC/ media or noone made a big out of issue out of it
Why varuan gandhi spoke truth about hindu community he dubbed as anti minority communals
What a double standard and biased secularism

Unable to remain focused on Nehru, you have found solace in Chinese poetry to justify your idol worship.

Justice?
by Vas on Mar 25, 2009 10:58 PM  | Hide replies

"justices Imtiyaz Murtaza and S C Nigam.."

A mullah in the justice bench? What kind of justice is Varun going to get? Only in India, mullahs have free reign in delivering "justice" concerning their community. Varun certainly doesn't stand a chance - poor boy! If he had said he was muslim, or christian, and pissed on the hindus, he would have been praised by the justice benches and released at once, and then taken around in a chariot for being 'secular.'

The Indian legal system is as corrupt as the Indian government itself.
