The political jousting about appeasement on a caste basis is still a delicate issue. But as Indian society has become increasingly divided on communal lines, such delicacy does not visit discussions about the so-called privileges enjoyed by India's Mus@im citizens. No political party, not even the Congress, has tried to propagate or practice the secular ethos. The Mus@ims are included in different electoral strategies, not in developmental targets.

But does the idea of appeasement have any basis in fact? Like all powerful but divisive ideas this too belongs to the realm of imagination. Ever since the Rajiv Gandhi Government cynically modified Mus@im personal law after the Shah Bano judgment in the mid-1980s (which was equally cynically balanced by the opening of the locks on the Babri Masjid), the accusations of `reverse' discrimination have been legion. Article 370 on Jammu and Kashmir, the absence of a common civil code and the special rights of minority educational institutions are some of the examples dredged up to fan the communal debate. No mention here, of course, of the privileges enjoyed by the majority community, the best example being the tax advantages conferred on Hin2u Undivided Families.

Mr Imran All your statements are correct.But to get the support from mass other than religious cermony or customs you yourself ask for equal and not preferntial treatment. Why PM says Muslims have first charge on indian wealth- condemn it
I have not acome across anywhere the full text of what Varun said. If you ask Varun baiters about what he said, they will say that they do not know but he said something against mu@lims. Can somebody please say what did he exactly say.

If Varun has done any thing wrong, let the voters decide and give judgement. Varun is not being prooved as wrong in any trial in court. CEC, UPA or any other peaceful beggars do not have any right to ban Varun. This drama is part of ground preperation work of Cong to give orders to CEC for banning Varun from contesting. Cong Mata do not digest Varun more shining than her Rahul. If at all Varun is banned, before that,Sanjay, Madhani, A R Antuley, IUML, MIM etc should be banned first,and Afzal Guru must be hanged, Delhi Imam must be arrested.
