This ja*ka*s was representing India at the U.N? And he doesnt realize not to interrupt the national anthem? Not that he was a superstar at the UN or anything or got any discernible benefits to India during his tenure there. He was a token developing country seat-warmer with delusions of self-grandeur in a den of western thieves. Goes to show why india cannot get its way in international fora anymore. Must have suc*ed up to the reigning gandhi queen to get posted to the U.N. in the first place. Sad story...
What a bunch of bigots. Most of these convenience patriots would not even bother to pay attention to national anthem. He was not sleeping or drilling his nose. Screw these commies who will do anything to cling on to power and show their ill placed hatred for America. Commies go to China, this is a free country.

If you Congressis think that Tharoor deserves to be exonerated for insulting the nation of more than a billion people, never mind he was the nation's representative at the UN (God only knows what he represented that India never got a permanent membership to UNSC with veto powers), then why should Varun be strictured for speaking out against avowedly anti-national elements in the country? Tharoor should be tried of high treason and sentenced summarily.

Yes we'll remember that, plus not to drink and drive like in the US, and learn how to construct a sentence properly (something you could learn too).

Yup, nothing wrong with that. In fact, When I was in the US, I saw many Americans place their hands on their dicks during their national anthem. Interesting!

Well, MR (amusingly) Dimwit, each country has its protocol, on how to behave when the national anthem is played. The English and Aussies don't place their hands on the chest during their national anthem, do they now? So what does the origin of national anthem have to do with the national protocols?
Don't you westerners believe that democracy originated in Greece? Well, so how come you jokers don't wear Greek traditional dress during elections?
Oh well (sigh), I hope you are not a representative of the western intelligence.
While from our childhood we always have being told to stand staright and be quite (or sing along) when national anthem is played. In private life, we might not be following them properly, but being a public figure we should know the rule and should follow it. What tharoor did is wrong, he should be charged with the misdeed.
