What is development?
by mukti bhagat on Mar 23, 2009 06:01 PM  | Hide replies

Back to development. One cannot personally take a decision that WB is not developed. There are proper ways and methods to find that. I am pasting a part from my previous post:

Social Development Report 2008 is available in the market, published by Oxford U press(Rs 445). There you can find where exactly is west bengal, kerala and tripura versus other states. In the SDR-2008, for urban areas West Bengal is in the 8th position among the major states. Kerala comes 2nd. Guajarat is 6th. Maharashtra is 7th... Uttaranchal, Haryana, AP, Karnataka, Assam, Rajastan, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa, MP, UP and Bihar comes only after West Bengal.

In the case of rural areas West Bengal comes 13nd. Gujarat comes 10th. Kerala comes 1st. Karnataka comes 6th. Orissa, Rajastan, Chattisgarh, MP, UP, Jharkhand, and Bihar comes only after West Bengal.

Now coming to HDI (Planning Commission). WB(8), Kerala(1), Gujarat(6), AP(10), Bihar(15), MP(12), Rajastan(9), Orissa(11)

Human Hunger Index
Punjab(1), Kerala(1), WB(8), UP(9), Maharastra(10), Karnataka(11), Orissa(12), Gujarat(13), Bihar(15), MP(17)

Now please stop spreading lies about communists and the states ruled by them. Those states are in many ways better than others. Come with facts and figures and we can argue. No smear game please.

I THINK WE SHOULD THINK TO GIVE A GOOD TREAT TO THESE BUGGERS. WHY NOT WEST BENGAL TRY TO UNITE WITH EAST BENGAL AGAIN. THAT WOULD BE RATHER RATIONAL FOR THEM SINCE I DON'T THING THIS COUNTRY IS FOR THEM. A DAY WILL COME WHEN BENGALEES WOULD BE VANISHED FROM INDIA SINCE BJP AND OTHER HINDI SPEAKING STATES ARE NOT ALLOWING THEM TO WORK, TO DO BUSINESS NOWADAYS. COMMI NETAS ARE HOPELESS AND SOME PUPPETS ARE POSTED IN DELHI WHO ARE NOTHING FOR ANYTHING, ONLY FOR SHOW. GOD KNOWS WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THEM IN THIS HOSTILE COUNTRY ?

I am sorry. But color of truth can be white or black. You have to accept it. Why are you using abusive words. It shows your weakness. Counter if you can with facts and figures.

Btw, where are you from? I will teach you about your state. How about that?

a) Why the condition of roads in different parts of Kolkata & its suburb are so pathetic?
b) Why the major roads are not broad unlike other metros ?
c) Why the streets and payments are not clear of vendors ?
d) Why the approach to & exit from Howrah / Sealdah Stations are so CONJESTED & DIRTY ?
e) Why the ILLEGAL AUTOS are plying in the city breaking all traffic norms ?

A city like Calcutta is the densest city in India. There is much more people which an old city like Calcutta can accommodate. And purging poor out of the city is not at all an option.

Look at Mumbai. Even the foot paths are encroached and built houses. Airport land, railway land, hundreds of acres are encroached upon. Kurla, Mankhurd, Govandi, Parel are all humming unbelievably overcrowded. Dharavi the worlds largest slum.

So it is not an option to purge out the poor from cities, and remove an eye sore. They are also looking after a family. Jeene do na yaar...

Beware of Indians. They know to use you, divide you in the name of east-west,caste-creed,ghoti-bangal. They informed to british about Khudiram Bose,Netji and many Bengalees. Bengal suffered from famine due to them. Their jelousy and black conspiracy broke Bengal in to two parts and now they are torturing on us all over the country. Those foolish commis are of no use. BJP has very ugly thought against all Bengalis, be it east or west.

Just I want clarification. Nehru/Gandh divided the country and the bengal as well.

Shaya Prasad take back the Bengalees by way of West Bengal.

Now, East Bengal become an Islamic Country finally Hindu can not mixed with them.

If Shyama Prasad did not rescue us from them so now a days we are belongs to an Islamic Country. You are aware of their activities.

But, the separation is the worst human disaster of the world all we know but it is inhabitable because the separation of the Total Bengal be it partial or not.

Another High Court Order
by Truth on Mar 23, 2009 05:35 PM

High court had passes an order that the taxis which are 15 yrs or old must be replaced and not allowed after 31st July 2009.
CPM has 5 months to do something about the order.
But I am sure our Mr.Buddhadeb, our CM, will wake up on 31st july and say "One fine morning" we cant change all the taxis.
So we will see another failure.....Can any CPM supporter come up and throw some light on this...

WHY JOBS DATA IS NOT BEING PUBLISHED BY INDIAN GOVERNMENTS ?
by udayraj on Mar 23, 2009 04:32 PM

Sunil Mittal & Wal Mart, the biggest organisation in world by revenue of US$ 378 Billion, are tying together for organised retail initiative under Bharti's leadership. This joint venture is going to produce 2 million jobs in organised retail compared to job loss of 40 million across India. So best of luck to Mr. Mittal & govts. who are obeying to large businessmen for creating more & more poor people. Why Indian Govt. is not publishing jobs data each month/ each quarter, like USA? Indian Govt. should have to publish, so that Indian people will understand what is better for them. In USA, there was recession in 1985. Walton, the CMD of Wal-Mart had launched the campaign of MADE IN USA. Both the Wal Mart & suppliers of WALMART are agreeing about the cost & price cutting. But, afterwards Walton bought goods from outside USA & labelled them as MADE IN USA for cheaper input costs. How much margin organised retailers get? 3%-Wall Mart & 1.5%-Pantaloon Retail. What are the impacts of organised retail chains on cities other than metros? Dr. MMS had implemented organised retail under the pressure of powerful economies. Decision of organised retail is not Manmohaneconomics, but the keen desire of western countries to support their companies. WalMart is total failure in USA regarding social issues. Unorganised retailers had shut shops long ago. In small towns only malls are there. India has 125 Crs population. Unemployment will icrease heavily due to ORGANISED RETAILERS & their cartels.

ECONOMIC POLICY OF ORGANISED RETAIL & IT'S DEEP IMPACT
by udayraj on Mar 23, 2009 04:31 PM  | Hide replies

Allowing organised retail in India is the biggest mistake ever done by Dr.MMS. Large corporations like reliance group & International retail chain like WalMart are now spearheading their heads in the country. What is the benefits of organised retail in INDIA is ,it gives larger corporations & multinationals an opportunity to harass ‘aam admi’ & make him more poor & poor & generate themselves a lot of money at the cost of ‘aam admi’ & only @ 0.6% to 1.8% net profit on total sales, when there are other businesses in existance which can generate them more revenues. The disadvantage is that the persons employed in retail approximately 4 crores of shopowners & 17-19 crores of their employees will register in employment exchanges in future as nonvacant candidates. The another disadvantage is about farmers. They now get better prices from multinationals than current retailers, but when the current retailers will disappear from screen, these multinationals unite themselves & form cartels & suppress for cost reduction. In detail, salary in the case of employees of organised retail ;farmers in the case of their produce & same is with the other amenities like day-to-day living instruments like appliances & other products for Small & Medium scale Enterprises. What is the benefit of customer, most of them after approx. 2-5 years later have no earnings more than now by loosing their businesses & vacancies & due to inflation & monopolistic policies of large corporations.

Udayraj-You are tilting at windmills. Organized retail chains will compete amongst themselves instead or cartelization. Moreover, the Mom & Pop stores currently running in different cities will find more innovative ways of surviving- They may offer CREDIT to regular customers or take up Franhisee opportunities. Organized retail will do more to provide a fair return on labour and investments to the farmers who have been fleeced for centuries by the typical Ba nia and money lending communities! All these years of protectionism and socialistic slogans have done nothing to improve the lot of the farmers and the consumer has got shoddy, unhygenic and non standardized items form the Trading & Middlemen communities! Moreover these smaller shops are huge evaders of Sales tax and involved in adulteration of food articles. Organized retail will also facilitate flow of Credit, modern farming methodologies, Insurance, etc to the agro sector. Small scale sector can always supply goods at competitive rates to all these retail chains. Many cooperative based retail chains like Margin Free are already doing well in Kerala and Tamil Nadu

There is already the reknowned cartel in existance, i.e. cement companies, who are increasing prices continuously. When govt. imposes ban of Rs. 5/. on each bag, these companies increased the prices by Rs. 15/. & filed the fines with Govt. Now talk anything different. You are the clean fool person, who can't understand what is good/bad. Franchisee will get commission on the sales, then what is wrong with current situation, which is already good than that?

Why this conflict over land?
by Jai Babu on Mar 23, 2009 04:16 PM

I am no supporter or fan of the Tantrum Queen- Mamata Banerjee, but both Singur and Nandigram had some major issues. In both cases, fertile & productive agricultural land which sustains a robust agro based economy was put at peril by the Tata plant ant Singur and the Salim Group SEZ project at Nandigram. And what would the common people have got in return-menai & semi skilled jobs. It is high time taht the land acquisition policies for SEZs and Industries is rationalized. It would be better to develop Agriculture & ancially indistries through Farmers' cooperatives and collective farming to develop Agararian regions and concentrate on SEZs and Industries in states or areas with barrren and uncultivable lands. For example the agrarian areas of sttes like West Bengal, Orissa, UP, Bihar, MAharashtra, AP, Tamil Nadu or Kerala should take the Ago route and areas like Rajasthan, Gujrat, drier areas of Orissa, Bihar, Jharkhand, Maharshtra, Tamil Nadu. Karnataka , etc concentrate on Industrialization. But the politicos are busy taking shortcuts and looking to profiteer through land acquisition by using Government muscle
