BJP leadership has not once said that the CD has been tampered with. They know that Varun is lying about the tampering of CD, and they do not want the party to carry the burden of Varun's lies.

EC fully believes that the CD is not doctored and, therefore, will not get involved in the forensic test of CDs. CEC N Gopalaswami has already said it is for Varun to prove that the CD has been tampered with.
This issue has received wide coverage and even NY Times has quoted the purported remarks.
One expects that distancing from the remarks is a calibrated move for legal safeguarding presently. It is likely that the stance so far is a matter of pragmatic concerns, so as to not appear contradictory to the stand taken by Shiv Sena. The sensible response of BJP has therefore been to let EC decide the course of action, and make it easier for their decision-making.
It is understandable that there is a real need for handling this matter with due care. What is at stake is the political capability to represent a large section of people imbued with much anger and even hate against terror elements, and this unfortunately rubs over in few cases to minorities in general. And this phenomenon has presently affected a very large constituency.
BJP for historical reasons can not let this constituency down with a knee-jerk response. It has a greater management responsibility of giving assuaging these forces thereby containing them from violent action.
However, the decision itself can not be different from what needs to be seen as a foregone conclusion. Only then the secular credentials can be firmly established beyond even an iota of doubt.

BJP knopws that canceling varun's candidature will send a wrong signal to communal h1ndus who see hope in BJP. those h1ndus may stay home and not vote at all

well they r saying that it might be tampered .....it is for police to find out....not them.......
one BJP leader has even said that Varun and Maenka are targetted due to family fued....(with sonia manio)
