Reversemocracy
by wellwisher on Mar 20, 2009 09:58 PM  | Hide replies

After having lost the bid to become the UNSG, the diplomat is now entering national politics from a constituency about which he knows next to nothing.
This is democracy in reverse, imposed from top down for personal kicks, and from bottom up as a representaive of people.

You are right! We should insist on the same criminal, illiterate, self-obsessed, corrupt politicians we have had so far. Why break a good thing?

This is a major gain for India. Being an expatriate I've often had very clear ideas and vision for the future of India but have stayed away from India and Indian politics just because of the stress involved in the job.
Glad to know that some so erudite as Tharoor decided to contest elections in India. Hope he wins with a thumping majority. He's in the perfect position to take on external affairs area. I think we have had enough of Pranab who has zero command of english and much less idea of western thoughts to present India's ideas and vision (which I'm not quite sure Pranab has an idea of either) to the world so as to make a difference for India. We need smart progressive benevolent people to lead India into the 21st century not battle hardened old political warfare vets like the Pranabs, Karats and Advanis or Mayawatis or well intentioning but misdirected people like Modi.
We need lots of foreign educated and experienced people in Indian politics to drive India towards progress. Progress does not mean high rises and big business booming alone. Progress should mean that the chai wala can dream of becoming the CEO of his company. When the lowest level person starts believing in his dream to make a better life - only then does the country really progress. That is a dream that has to be sold to the Indian public and not too many in the current polity have either an idea of it nor the belief that they can do it.
Shashi Tharoor is one person who will have that vision.

My friend,

This fellow Shashi supports the rule of Animal Nehru....so he is probably worse than Animal Nehru. Some time back in the '70s Shashi supported the Criminal Party of India Madminded (CPI-M) during his days in Calcutta, Waste Bengal. Now he joined the NoProgress party hoping that tyey may win the Loksava. Well Shashi the Khasi (in Bangla Khasi is Goat) U can be rest assured U would fail again...Billion plus unfortunate Desis R tired of the useless, cowardly and wasteful rule of the UPA.

as per your thought,Shriman Rahul Gandhi must not be the PM chair aspirant. He has just a courtesy education from a foreign university(which most politicians' children get) and that's all. Let's bring Bobby Jindal back to India. He's conservative, but has all the international exposure one needs to rule the masses, according to you.

Look - If Rahul Gandhi is good for the country - all for it no matter what his family is. He's just another citizen of India. I dont know enough about the stand that Rahul Gandhi has on various issues to see if he's fit for being the PM or even a MP so I'll not vote for him - yet.
I presume that you're kidding about Bobby Jindal. As regards what Tharoor supported in 1970 - frankly it does not matter. That was like when he was about 20 and there was this big wave of support of communism which frankly has lost meaning in the context of the democratic concept of India. Not sure what you mean by "Animal Nehru" but if you mean the congress party - I'm not a great supporter of congress party either. But at the moment that other 2 parties are much worse than congress. BJP try to portray that they are nationalistic and to be honest many of them are - but people like Shushma and Rajnath have 17th century views about what they want for India. I'd stay very clear of BJP in these coming elections. The 3rd front means anarchy in India. My order of preference is Congress, BJP. I'll not even visit India if the 3rd front comes to power. They are nothing but Karat's front who just has a pathological hatred of the US and using his party and this 3rd front to push his agenda.

As a UN diplomat, He could have join Any other party with a PM seat possible in 10 years. Joining Congress shows He has no clue about Indian Politics. He will waste his broad knowledge and global connections just being a slave with 'Yes madame' 'Yes Soniyajee' and perhaps 'Yes Rahuljee' guy. No wonder he could not win UN election!

We need polititians like Shashi if we definitely want to get rid of mediocracy in Indian politics. I have read many articles of Shashi on TOI and he has lot of knowledge about politics and good plans for India. I wish one day he would become our PM.

It is the muslims who are worst affected by these quota system. You can see the Sachhar committee report.
11. More concessions for Haji. Govt provides only once a year to muslims. If the budget dont allow then obviously they should not. (But have you ever think that how much security cost and arrangements require for festivals which are numerous in a year.)

12. More appeasement throgh HRD ministry. It is not the appeasement. it is rational behavior of HRD which you peole dont like.

13. SAchhar committe is a white truth that u dont want to accept neither Congress.

14. We all are responsible for these attacks. The hate politics of BJp, VHP, bajrang dal are responsible for it. Hate will always engender crimes. Mould your ways. It is in the interest of nation.
15. already answred.
15. I cant tolerate this idea. Live and let Live. You have only one life.
17. More suicide of farmers: The five year plan is waste. every fifth year it is copy pasted by IAS and IPS officers. Congress and BJP all to blame.

18. What do you expect when there will be power theft to such an extent that outweight the legitimate user.

19. Bofors / Sukhram like scams: Similar scams were also there in BJP times. It is individual greed. (There is enough on the earth to support the mankind but not enough to satisfy a single person's greed)
20.Embarrasing / cursing Majority
community. No one curse and it should not be tolerated. Have you seen Varun cursing majority.

21. Encourage Girls / wife / Sisters to go to PUB for drinking & smoking, etc.
What prob u have if they are encouraging theirs. You should have prob when they encourage yours.
If they want to go pub let them go, who the hell are you vandalizing the premise and beat girls. I dont think it is written anywhere in ramayana or mahabharata. I read these two.
