Low voting in Mumbai,
by kuldip uppal on May 04, 2009 04:27 PM

In Mumbai those who stay in buildings have cooperative socities. The Society members donot take active part in society affairs. They do not attend society meetings unless they have personnal issue otherwise nobody cares, probably because it doesnot pay to work for society. Those who work, do for society have a habit of social works or want to make money or have some other motive, in short nobody wants to work unless there is immediate monetary benefit.
Same attitude applies in politics of national level. Poor people in this country are said to be paid in cash or kind at time of election as reported in news.Rich contribute in cash for election funds and heap benefits from political masters later. So where is the question for voting for free, everyone wants their pound of flesh.Few like me who have brought some disipline in their own life go out and vote. According to me all other things said or written about low trunout is all crap, because if we were really concerned society of citizens then we would have got our freedom in 1857 and would have been leading country in world minus todays corrupt leaders.

just look at the picture
by Pradip Parekh on May 03, 2009 10:20 PM

what do you see? filth, and a building that looks like from a ghost town which has had no paint job in 5 decades. india has more propsperity than east european countries - you can tell by nice clothes that indains wear - and yet has terrible landscape. a lot of toilets and trash cans around every locality are badly needed along with nicely sodded grass area to keep the dust to minimum.

Voters List in South Mumbai - A Sham
by Kulinder Singh on May 01, 2009 06:20 PM

Lived in South Mumbai for 36 years and have voted in every election..and yet our name and the name of all the family members and the colleagues in the entire building in South Mumbai was deleted in the hard copy kept at the booth...while the name exists in the voters list released on the CEO website for all of them. Who is responsible fro all this should be booked fro crime? The election held in South Mumbai yesterday should cancelled and re-held after the all the genuine voters are reinstated as this was the ase for many buildings in South Mumbai. There were no media people - newspapers or TV, available to talk about it yesterday .. just busy chasing taking pics of celebrities from the Bollywood!!

Low voting in Mumbai Pune
by Suresh Bhave on May 01, 2009 03:15 PM  | Hide replies

Both these cities have registered low percentage of voters exercising the right. One of the reasons is the high proportion of people from outside the state in these cities. They are mainly labourers, etc., and having registered as voters they are not interested in local politics, so they do not vote. Another reason is that there is a general perception that electing people to represent us does not change things. Changes that have happened in the past few decades are due to technology and the compulsions of the world trade that affect the ultra rich who call the shots in economic matters. People, salaried, those in small-time self-employment are not affected by all this. thirdly, we know that the politicians are there because it is their livelihood and we are merely called in because the rules of their business, unfortunately for the politicians, compel them to hold elections to have a standing as democratically elected leaders before the world (that is the USA). There are other countries that do not give two hoots for elections, but get on fine. Therefore, what is the point in voting? I voted, but it was not with any enthusiasm because I know anyone we elect is going to be as egotistical and greedy as the present lot.

ITs a conspiracy....
by brookie on May 01, 2009 01:21 PM

It is a conspiracy of UPA and EC to relinquish the basic voting right from the educated elite majority in a predetermined way in the name of clearing the electoral-roles, to make sure BJP voters are kept away from polls...
