They have made 26/11 a joke
by Parth Mehta on May 01, 2009 10:10 AM  | Hide replies

I am deeply saddened & disappointed to read this article. We seriously need to step back & analyze ourself as one country, where are we going? Today, India faces lot of problems just like any developing country & security is a big one among them, probably the biggest one because even if we can take care of other problems, if there is no security to a common man of India, all other efforts are in vein. If we look at 26/11 & the impact of it, one would think that it will change mindset of people completely but still we see a lot of indifference in people for voting & election process. If previous bombings were not enough, 26/11 was definitely a wake up call for India. But the way, the present government has handled this issue, it has become a farce. After bombings, our government hasn't been able to succeed in anything except making Pakistan accept that Kasab is a Pakistani. But then what? Have they accepted that their ISI or army was involved in it? Have they closed down terrorist camps permanently? They haven't even arrested people who are prime suspects in this case, they are just being kept under house arrest. But one would expect not even this much effort from Pakistan looking at their history & dealing with India's allegations in past. So this was expected from them. The real problem is with Indian government & system. Government has been a complete failure in handling the post 26/11 situation. Another bigger culprit is Indian media. Lets talk about these 2 issues.

To tell a few mishandlings, after so many bombings in major cities, finally it took an attack of the scale of 26/11 to fire an incompetent home minister. The much talked POTA law which was scraped under UPA regime, was brought back reluctantly with some modification & given a new name. If that is not enough, enormous amount of time was wasted over making Pakistan accept that Kasab is a Pakistani. Many countries were given evidences about involvement in Pakistan hand in this attack which finally didn't yield anything. Then comes the media, who has done a disgusting coverage of entire attack exposing positions of brave Commandos just to gain TRP ratings which was followed by a swarm of campaigns, light a candle, enough is enough & lot more. Endless discussions were carried on with anti-politician whipping where the real problem was how India should tackle the terror & what should we do to improve our security. In that sense, media has completely misled the handling of this issue where it could have played a pivotal role. Then comes Ajmal Kasab. Public was provided each & every detail of him, what does he like, eating habits, where he is kept, a tunnel has been made in jail, his demands. Media made him a hero by giving him unnecessary publicity. And then comes the trial for Kasab, for 2 months, we just fought whether he should get a lawyer or not, & when finally he got a lawyer, we are busy proving that he is not minor. I mean, what are we trying to prove to the world?

That we are very diplmatic & in our country, even the people who have committed such heinous crimes, gets a fair trial. If we are trying to prove this, fine, but public wants to know how long this case will last. Is he going to be convicted? and the bigger question is even if he is convicted, would he be punished or would he be treated like Afzal Guru? I think it is high time, we should think about this as one country, one united India, getting above religions & faiths, getting above party lines. Till 25/11, all the channels kept talking about Malegaon blast & shallow tangential headlines were reported as Hindu Terror. It was interesting to see that, from 26/11, new headlines came out which said, Terror has no religion. And honestly, no newspaper or news channel cared for their sudden U-turn on this policy. It is high time, when we hold our politicians & media accountable for this fiasco. Above all that, those citiznes who lost their lives in terrorist attacks, were not given proper compensation & those brave soldiers who have laid down their lives, were not given due respect they deserve. In this scenario, why would someone from their families go & vote? Their pain is understandeable & their point is vaild. We need to aquire zero tolerance policy towards terrorism. Make tough laws, secure borders, police reforms, improve internal securities, & execute the culprits. That will make bleeding India happy. Jai Hind.

voting
by james on May 01, 2009 10:07 AM

It is high time for government to think about voting make compulsory for all those who have issued a voter identity card. At present people are using this card as an identity card for various government related activities to get away with it. The problem india facing is people are not coming out to vote. Only when educated and urban people vote, right candidates, from whichever party, will get elected and the standard and status of our political system will get improve. There should be strict monitoring for who has not voted and govt may ask for a reson for not voted by them. Secondly, if a governemnt, semi govt or public private sector does not vote, one day salary should get deducted for enjoying the holiday given to him only for the purpose of voting. We have implemented PAN card system successfully for all financial related activities and people are abiding wihh it and if govt will, this also can be implemented

India and its people have to believe in themselves
by sumit mathur on May 01, 2009 08:34 AM

In this family I see hope dimishing, I see that the country they call them home has forgeten them, their plight is no more a concern and this is real INDIA (divided, self centered and mediocare). The local South Mumbai community (with a list of affuluent members) should come forward to help this family in need. They should show support for these families. Why always blame BJP/Congress for everything. All you bloggers... stop your rubbish..grows up..Your empty mindless taking would not help this country. Pass on the message of hope.. bring in the good things to limelight. Reignite the people's faith in this country... JAI HIND

Then the Hindu politicians should also not waste public money for renovating temples/pampering Mutts and wasting public money on their pujas. We should see our own faults before pointing fingers at others.

i would encourage the victim's family to begin voting in future because their vote may one day save someone else's family member..with the change it may bring.. and set a positive example.. for others who may have suffered or who have given up voting...
yes.. we have faults in our system and lots of reasons to feel hopeless and let down.. but ultimately.. whether its our own success or our own mess it will affect us only... one day sooner or later. even if we put it off for now..... no one else can clean our mess... so we better never stop by not voting..
