For past 4 years an Italian is ruling the nation through an Indian proxy supported from outside by Chinese agents and their Pakistani sympathisers who think SIMI is not anti-national but secular.

Reservations or affirmative action (re. Rakarapu Kumar)
by R Chakravarti on May 05, 2009 08:09 AM

Affirmative Action is necessary but it should not be overdone. The "downtrodden" Sinhalas practised a severe form of social justice against the Tamils. The net result is the present condition of Sri Lanka. In Malaysia the condition of non-Malays is a bit similar but they are far weaker than the Sri Lankan Tamils. There is no way an LTTE can spring up there.

Maybe the best course is that followed in the U.S.; look at Wikipedia.

By the way, the native Tamils of Sri Lanka have always held the plantation workers in contempt. The latter are Tamils of Indian origin and are not involved in the conflict! No social justice for them, as far as I can see.

One more thing I would like readers to think about: people compare India politicians with Barack Obama but ignore the fact that he has never been accused of corruption.

that is sad that mayawati had forgotten her real base...Chamars and other dalit casts.now u can see Brahmin-Baniyas-Guzzar-Jats are everywhere in BSP but not Chamar.peopls from wealthy upper casts are occuping posts in BSP and dedicated lower casts worker who build tha party are forgotten..although she is bussy with making her palace via social enginiaring..but no one should forget that Chamar-Dalit are the foundations on witch she is trying to make her "palace" ...and if her foundation get away..she will on the ground at that day..

Maywati has the dalit vote in her pocket. They would vote for her unconditionally. She has a pan India presence. I think she is the strongest contender for the PM post.

modi or maya
by Pradip Parekh on May 02, 2009 05:32 AM  | Hide replies

both are backward class leaders. modi has a great record of gigantic achievements, so gigantic that surpasses the best in the west europe and even usa. there is no contest. elect the bjp, for equal happiness, balanced growth for all sections of india. the dalits will do better in modi's india than they ever can hope under maya. other considerations have no place in this make-or-break election, and don't let them get the better of you.

I feel Mayawati is the strongest contender for the PM post. Modi is aligned with the Bharat Jalao Party and has no chance.

thanks to the corrupt, unprincipled, castiest politicians the stage for development, progress of the country had shifted to business persons. lakhs of them. no false promises like sacrifice to nations, gharib hatao, socialism , marxism, khana, ghar, kapda to every one and etc etc. they stand for profit, work, invest, train and employ for profit. the gain and the country also gains. it does not matter who wins the election and is the premier the country will progress. the country has crossed the take off stage.

What if BSP fails to get 30 seats?
by democrazy on May 01, 2009 04:49 PM

There is a distinct possibility of either Congress or BJP engineering a split in BSP or some other parties, which is perfectly legal as per rules, we may not see Mayawati ruling as PM. At the same time, it is a serious travesty of democracy if a party with only double digit figures were to rule. Congress played this game with Chandrashekhar, and we know the results.

I hope neither Congress nor BJP will support her in this.

If NDA can't get clear, committed support, it should sit in opposition, rather than be a party for khichri govt.

The danger is in allowing unqualified personnel to key positions solely on the strength of their caste. This policy is what has hurt India's progress all along: favoring so called castes/class so that merit has become an unknown factor.
Any discrimination is wrong and THIS is what the leaders should work for, not promoting nepotism and pretending that this is promotion of backward class.
Personally speaking I couldn't care less who works with me or for me as long as the person responds to job requirements.

if the so called dalits are unqualified then no dalit could have worked in the private sector and abroad even i am working abroad and my friend u know that abroad jobs are purely on merit so the matter of fact is that the so called upper castes cannot tolerate dalits progress and that is why they make hue and cry regarding reservations in private sector if not everyone is equally capable and if given an oppurtinity will prove their mettle.

I repeat: Merit is what should count. Merit does not mean accepting lower qualifications from some candidates just to favour the caste or class. No reservations should be tolerated simply because this eludes merit placement. The biggest problem is equal opportunities of education to one and all irrespective of state, class, community and caste. The word caste should be banned as also discrimination that goes with it. We must forget that caste exists and thereby kill the concept.
I am happy for you, but please don't harp on caste and calling yourself a dalit. You are an Indian who should be casteless as us all. Forget upper and lower caste. We must liberate the country of this stupid discrimination that no longer has anything at all to do with caste as it was conceived in ancient times among an ancient society. What is wrong is wrong. Why perpetuate this in this day and age?

I agree with rakarapu kumar. There is no need to label all dalits as incompentent. Indians need to leave hate and bigotry and move forward.

Ankleshwar Aiyer's Crystal Gazing on Post Poll Scenario...
by D goel on May 01, 2009 12:27 PM

D. Goel Pkl. afternoon, 12.20pm, Friday,May 1,2009.
There possibly no guesstimate that may not come cropper as results are counted. Most Psephologists are ,at least In India made to eat the crow, very often Sri Aiyer Knows all this.He prefaces his speculations by a disarming confessions of Hazarding such projections. That is welcome.
It is based that Mayawati shall have 50 Lok-sabha Members on May 16th. UPA& NDA
UPA slightly ahead shall have around 400 MPS.
Remaining being made over of Left and regional groups like AADMK ,DMK, Leftists , BJD, Laluji
and SP as well as Nationalist Congress of Sharad Pawar Maharashtra , Sangama, Chandra Babu Naidu, others
If Mayawati makes 50/84 of UP seats then certainly She could weigh on any group that desires to rule India after May 16.it is difficult to believe that Maya could so radically claim 50 on her own election crafting. If she does so , she has definitely bearded the old lions in their lairs!.D. Goel
