This menace must be stopped!
by Ganesh Bangera on Apr 28, 2009 08:27 PM  | Hide replies

I think,we should stop this menace once & for all by putting all the shoe/chappal throwers since the time Mr.Chidambaran was made the target,& put them in the jail for atleast 3-6 months to act as deterrent to others.Otherwise, our children will think that this is a part of Indian culture & start throwing chappals at their parents, teachers & elders in the time to come at least provocation! If we don't act now with iron hand, this might become a big menace in future. We should stop this uncivilised behaviour.

How do you select a PM, (or how to conduct a vote of confidence)
by xxx yyy on Apr 28, 2009 08:15 PM

1. Line up the prospective candidates in parliament
2. All MPs throw their footwear at the one they choose to make a PM
3. The one who gets the highest number of hits (must be hits and not misses) gets to be the PM
4. Repeat this on the first of every month so that everybody gets a chance to be PM
5. If all MPs throw their hats in the ring to be PM, then they can beat each other with their foot missiles till one is left standing, and he can be declared PM
Note: Men MP hits will be counted as one vote. Two women MP hits will be counted as a single vote

targets missed by sharp shooters
by satyavadi on Apr 28, 2009 08:15 PM

These chappal thowers should make effigies of all these corrupt politicians; do ample practice from diffrent angles & distances as the cricketers do fielding practices for "run-outs"...or else a "chappal shooters' club" may be formed in every dist. HQ atlest 30 days before the election date & reknowened cricket coaches can give "proper coaching" so that SUCH TARGETS SHOULD NOT BE MISSED ANYMORE...THEN ONLY THESE SHAMELESS POLITIATIANS WILL BE OUT OF POWER"

imitation
by sreenivasch on Apr 28, 2009 07:56 PM

It is very very unfortunate that we the great citizens of India are imitating somebody. Though our constutition has provided us the rigit to express, till today we never have expressed this many times with footwear earlier. Though our constitution has provided us with so many advantages we never know how to use those tools, in the meanwhile the politicians have taken the advantage of the situation, and only thing left for the common citizen who is neither a politician nor laurate is in blankmind and he started imitating somebody who is neither related to our country nor politics. I request my co-citizens that they are educated with such talents never to imitate in expressing their unwillingness by following somebody, we have our own constitution and laws which help us in expressing ourselves. Dont imitate.

This is a very imp section in our constitution and all educated voters must know.

Section 49-O of the Constitution

Do you know that there is a system in our constitution, as per the 1969 act, in section "49-O" that a person can go to the polling booth,
confirm his identity, get his finger marked and convey the presiding election officer that he doesn't want to vote anyone!

Yes such a feature is available, but obviously these seemingly notorious leaders have never disclosed it. This is called "49-O".

Why should you go and say "I VOTE NOBODY"... because, in a ward, if a candidate wins, say by 123 votes, and that particular ward has
received "49-O" votes more than 123, then that polling will be cancelled and will have to be re-polled. Not only that, but the candidature of the contestants will be removed andthey cannot contest the re-polling, since people had already expressed their decision on them.

This would bring fear into parties and hence look for genuine candidates for their parties for election. This would change the way, of our whole political system... it is seemingly surprising why the election commission has not revealed such a feature to the public....

Please spread this news to as many as you know... Seems to be a wonderful weapon against corrupt parties in India... show your power, expressing your desire not to vote for anybody, is even more powerful than voting... so don't miss your chance.

So either vote, or vote not to vote (vote 49-O

There is nothing like section 49-O in the constitution... There is article 49 which is about "Protection of Monuments and Places and Objects of National Importance". In fact, there are no sections in Indian Constitution, only articles....
In 1969, there was an act viz. ""THE CONSTITUTION (TWENTY-SECOND AMENDMENT) ACT, 1969" which talks about creation of an autonomous State within the State of Assam.

However, there is a said clause in THE CONDUCT OF ELECTIONS RULES, 1961. The clause is called 49-O. The clause is a guideline to presiding officer in a situation when "If an elector, after his electoral roll number has been duly entered in the register of voters in Form-17A and has put his signature or thumb impression thereon as required under sub-rule (1) of rule 49L, decided not to record his vote...". There is no provision for re-poll. The clause is mainly to prevent bogus voting, as is clear from the clause that follows (49P).

Good slipper throwing at politicians is our birthright..
by Peter Parker on Apr 28, 2009 07:39 PM  | Hide replies

Throwing slippers, garlanding politicians with chappals etc is our birth-right. These politicians have surrounded themselves with high security to keep out those terrorists but in the process are also using it to keep at bay pesky locals who demand but are not happy with their performance.
Chappal throwing etc is a time old tradition. BJP leader's better be aware of this. The yedu-appa seems to be one arrogant dude. It would be better for bjp leaders to be more humble.

Peter, it is nor a birth right, if that is birthright for us, it is an offence for that person invariably resulting in arrest of the person for endagering human life. arrogancy is not good, but that is rule in India. Sobres will be swallowed and dusted in politics.
