Naxal Bari movement which was crushed but couldn’t be finished by the hierarchy in Bengal, it was labeled as communism and anarchy when all it was trying to do was restore the basic human rights to a suffering populace, festering like an open sore on the face of India

This interview tells you why Muslims are still poor
by Sameer on Apr 22, 2009 11:25 PM  | Hide replies

Their leaders, or so called leaders are more interested in imaginary fear of Advani then choosing candidates who are honest and capable.
This is inspite of the fact that fifty years of congress rule has not helped their community.

Appeal to all citizens
by Rohit Saxena on Apr 22, 2009 11:02 PM

Hi All,

This is an open letter to all the people who contribute through various means on rediff either by writing articles or commenting on them.

Why do we always act negatively on the subject of elections? This is the most important part of our lives. The people chosen to lead us can either take us to dizzying heights or to the depths of hell. Yet in the article mentioned above, all that people can think of is "How to defeat SOMEONE?" Is this not a negative attitude towards our country & parliament? The ideal way forward would be to "Vote in order to elect" not defeat. If we do no concentrate on roads, telecom, water, electricity, industries, infrastructure and vote on the basis of whom do we want to defeat, That proves that we are just as much responsible for the shape of the country as our politicians.

I appeal to all citizens of India to use the elections as a tool to choose the leaders and not make it a tool for community-based ideology. Choose candidates who can provide better services to your constituency & nation.

No room for democracy in Islam: Pak cleric
by JGN on Apr 22, 2009 10:44 PM

Islamabad: Radical cleric Sufi Muhammad, who played a crucial role in enforcing Islamic law in Pakistans restive northwestern Swat valley, on Sunday said there is no room for democracy in Islam and that no one could appeal against the verdict of Shariah courts.

Addressing a gathering of thousands of people at Mingora, the main city of Swat district, the chief of the banned Tehrik-e-Nifaz-e-Shariah Muhammadi described democracy as an un-Islamic system. The existing system contravenes Islam and the Quran, he claimed.

Asserting that there is no room for democracy in an Islamic system, he claimed Pakistans rulers are appeasing the West by thrusting the system of "kafirs" or infidels on the people of the country

We are practicing pseudo-secularism
by JGN on Apr 22, 2009 10:29 PM  | Hide replies

We are practicing pseudo-secularism in our Country. France banned all kind of re1igious symbols from their Schools. The French President did not even concede to the request of Indian PM (Dr. Manmohan Singh) to allow Sikh students to wear Turban. That is called Secularism. In Inida, all Political parties play dirty game of appeasing one community or other to cling to power by hook or crook. The re1igious intolerance increased manyfold after the Shah Bano Case (and the legislation depriving Mus1im women protection under Indian Criminal Procedure Code) and subsequent opening of the gates of a disputed structure by the then PM, Rajiv Gandhi to appease the H1ndus.

Good thoughts , JGN. I think Uniform Civil Code is the pillar of the secular democracy. Unless you have Uniform Civil Code in place, everything you talk about secularism is of no use.
