Is Indian Media's selective reprtage on poverty Justified?
by Revolutionary on Apr 21, 2009 12:23 PM

Poverty is almost everywhere in India. This is because India is yet to utilise its independence from British. But projecting poverty in selective targets and screening up as if the state or the party in the ruling is responsible shows the embedded mindsets of our half baked journos.

You can just recognise that a handful of TV channels and newspapers writing about poverty select particular states that are ruled by right wing saffron group as if to conclude that poverty prevails under right wing policy.
But the fact is right wing rule across the states has just now got prevailing when compared to left leaned groups rule since independence.

But none of them has even dared to visit west bengal which has 7 districts which are among the poorest 50 districts in the world as declared by IMF. These 7 districts even surpasses a large number of districts even in africa. The more shocking is that this stage is reached after continuous stable government of "pro poor" left in Bengal for 32 years. That 32 years of left policy has taken poverty to peak in bengal is for all to see.

Yet our half baked journalists of TV channels and news papers havent even done any program or article on poverty in left ruled states and questioned their credibility.

For these journos it seem poverty under right rule is painful whereas poverty under left rule is manageable. What a pity in indian journalism.

India is democracy and NOT meritocracy.
by New York on Apr 21, 2009 12:16 PM

Since Hinduism is a covert mask for Casteism,
Parliament must amend constitution to promote cultural and socio-economic DIVERSITY in Private Institutions,Temples,Judiciary and in Defense Services.

* 50% of Priests,Supreme Court Judges,Defense Staff must be from OBC communities.
* 35% Priests,Supreme Court Judges,Defense Staff must be from Dalits and Tribals.
* 15% of Priests,Supreme Court Judges,Defense Staff must be from UPPER Castes.

You must do this till 85% of all registered marriages in India are INTER-CASTE or INTER-FAITH.
This is the only way to STOP dis-integration of India.

We have politicians who create regional and religious hatred, politicians who oppose projects like Tata Nano for political gains.

We can change our political system by voting for the right person and persuading/educating people around you to vote for the right person.

Loksatta led by Jayaprakash Narayan(Former IAS)is the only party which said it will not use
1) Money
2) Liquor
3) Religious hatred
4) Regional hatred to win in elections.

It is the only party which said it will not go for strikes to protest against government polocies but will protest in a democratic way.

For a country like India which has a 14% power deficiency importing nuclear technology for power generation is very important. Loksatta is the only party which was not part of the UPA (ruling coilation) which supported the Nuclear deal and urged other parties to support the deal which is very essential for our country.

When govt increased fuel prices because of the increased prices in gulf countries all oppositon parties did unfruitful works like using bullock carts to goto assembly. But loksatta is the only party which said we should reduce our dependency on oil (petrol) we should start using unconventional resources and fuel efficient technologies.

It is the only party which talks about providing good education and health facilities, infrastructure.

Let us all contribute by voting for the right person and campaign for parties like Loksatta which have great principles

It happens only in india

In spite of all the villagers problem, they still do not want any one to take initiative.

This part is true everywhere in india.
"There is no unity here. If I want to go to the collector to complain, only two people will come with me. The rest won't. They will want to know: 'Has he become our new leader? Is he better than us? Who is he to make decisions?' There are village elders to look after us. "

Please Vote for India. Also Please educate and motivate your parents, friends and relatives to vote.
Please vote for the best candidate irrespective of Caste,Creed, region, religion, fraudulent propoganda etc.
Some of us, have the feeling that if I vote for the best candidate and he is any way going to lose, why vote for him.
Please, please .. we should not do this mistake again.
Please vote for the right candidate no matter he wins or not. Once you vote for right candidate, the self satisfaction you get is unbelievable and outstanding.
Sometimes I feel,Media is the biggest culprit to put you in dilemma by deciding themselves this candidate is going to win.
No. We are the decision makers.

Non violence is a western Luxury
by mailme alladin on Apr 20, 2009 09:05 PM  | Hide replies

Whatever little bit of international travels I have done based on that I can say, Mahatma gandhi is very popular personality among the westerners. The other day, I was arguing to one of my white colleagues, Mahatma Gandhi is an over-hyped leader. India got freedom because English lost wars in various places they they were forced to retreat - it's not because of non-violence movment of Gandhi. If anyone made the life of British difficult in India, it was violent movement of some freedon fighters. For anyone to be popular in India, we need western certificate and precisely that's how Gandhiji became popular.
He refuted my argument saying non violence movment has some effect in western society. He said, some injustice was done to some girl, some non violent protest happended and govt acted.
Then I asked him, when Osama bin Laden attacked America, why the West didn't do a non-violent protest, why didn't they do violent attack in Iraq either. Obviously, he didn't have any answer to these.
That's why I say Non violence is a western Luxury.

That's the story of Mahatma Gandhi. Then it's better we don't talk about Nehru and other Gandhis.

Nehru and Gandhi duet continue to fool the people of India by perpetuating the name Gandhi acquired by Feroze Khan via an affdavit after the latter married Indira in a London mosque.
Do a google searh on Nehru-Gandhi dynasty and open your eyes before you vote.

Worst kind of politics was played by Nehru
by R on Apr 20, 2009 03:50 PM  | Hide replies

Indian Politicians are worst. They were always the worst, except Mahatma Gandhi.

Congress has blatantly used Mahatma Gandhi's name to further Congress & gandhi family in India. The worst politics was played by Nehru. Just to fulfill his prime ministerial ambitions, he and Jinnah partitioned the country. Lakhs of people died. Kashmir problem is result of the partition. Several wars have been waged. And, the problem continues. The terrorism, the kashmir problem, the trouble with Pakistan are all result of these personal ambitions of these two fellows, Nehru being the worse of the two. This was worst kind of politics played by our founders. When the foundation is not proper, the building keeps shaking.

It is sheer congress propaganda that Nehru was great. After all it suits them, even if it does not suit the country

What you wrote of Nehru is 101% correct...but Mahatma Gandhi was not a politician...he has been with congress at the time of freedom fight but he never joined politics or the government. Please correct me if i am wrong.

Where is your Hindustani Pride? Nehru was the elected head of the Congress party and Jinnah was the head of Muslim League. By giving the communal minded muslims some space reluctantly Nehru made peace inside India which has been disrupted by the rise and powering of the communal minded Hindus after 1989.
At the time of 1947 Partition there was always a third force - the British now it is not there. To understand Partition please read about the 1905 PArtition. It is for Hindustanis to not allow sectarian thoughts

Nehru was India's first Prime Minister and his party and his family have kept India from disintegrating further. There is no guarantee of others being able to do so or better only hope
