With the entry of the Kongunadu Munnetra Peravai (KNMP) into the election fray, the action in some constituencies in Tamil Nadu has taken an interesting turn. The contest in Pollachi is a case in point. Five candidates from major parties have so far filed their nomination papers and all of them are from the Gounder community, but the one who is going to eat into the votes of the major political parties is the KNMP which is espousing the cause of the community.
After Pollachi was made a general constituency (from a reserve), it has become a battleground of the Gounders now that Dr C. Krishnan (MDMK), two-time winner from here, will be contesting from Nilgiris.
DMK’s K. Shanmugasundaram, AIADMK’s K. Sukumar, DMDK’s K. P. Thangavel, BJP’s B. S. Ramesh and KNMP’s ‘Best’ Ramaswamy are the candidates in the forefront and ‘Best Ramaswamy’, observers point out, will give all other candidates a run for their money.
While the issues of the community are going to dictate the voting pattern, developmental issues, too, are going to sway the electorate.
The Gounders have all along felt they have been short-changed and the KNMP is trying to drive home this point.
Pollachi being an agrarian belt, issues such as reasonable prices for agricultural produce, mainly copra, have cropped up often. The setting up of a Coconut Development Board and Research Centre has remained on paper.
There is a distinct possibility of Jaya becoming PM and Maya becoming Home Minister, replacing MMS and PC. Hope Pak terrorists and Taliban get kicks on their butts by these two strong ladies. We can add Mamta as may be FM and then we have on our hands India's version of Charlies Angels.

God forbid that happens. But if he wills then they will be busy kicking Karuna, Mulayam/Bachans and Tata's butts instead of Paki and Talibans...
If the US can have a black president why can't India have a chamar as a PM?
People will get use to it and the next generation will learn that anybody can rise to the top, irrespective of their background?
Appart from Rahman, and Pookutty - has anybody who actually look like most Indian been the face of india abroad?
I was against Maya before, now I think she should have a chance.
Jaya on the other hand is set to capitalize on TN opinion on Congress and the old senile Thatha who is now perceived as being anti- Tamils by the grass root. Hopefully, a change at the center will stop the deep underlying discontent now being felt here.

yes why not a Chamar-a family member from BATA would be suitable
BJP and CONG must react now in a proper manner. Either they work for the people of India or they will be finished soon. 3rd Front must be a stable coalition though.
JJ is fit, her vision is always for One Nation and not for regions. She proved previous many occasions.
When V.P. Singh, I.K. Gujral, Deve Gowda, can became Prime Ministers, even Rahul Gandhi dreaming for Prime Minister post, Why can't we see JJ as Prime Minister. She has quality on her.
Both are extornists, having caste based politics, not fit to be MP, only municipal corporate level, somehow our country permits such people even for MP.

On the contrary, i feel Jaya as PM and Maya as Home Minister, the country will get a grip on itself. It seems the females of this country has better guts than its men.
