Polls
by rajesh on May 04, 2006 09:05 AM

Its high time poll processes are made simpler by means of technology. The polling by machines was OK for India of the 1970s. We should give the citizens to caste their votes over the internet via a secure connection with the Election Commission's web site. We have the resources, we have the technical expertise in India, do we have the commitment to make polling a satisfying experience? Remember the long ques in banks of the 1970s? With ATMs, the ques have vanished substantially. The banks have gained in terms of manpower reduction and efficiency. Similarly, with present system of casting votes, peop[le do not come out to vote because of effort required, and because of anticipated voilence. The government expenditure is substantial. This expenditure can be reduced substantially, if polling through internet is allowed. This will also result in involvement of people who are temporarily working outside their place of residence. Everybody wins, so whats the wait?
Chief Election Commissioner Sir, I hope you are reading this.
