What do you mean by secular votes???
by Bharad on Mar 02, 2005 12:41 PM  | Hide replies

In the paragraph--

'Take Chatra, where there are a lot of Muslims. The so-called secular vote was divided between the Congress and the RJD, which stood second. The BJP won.'

instead of Secular votes, you should say 'muslim votes' divided between congress and RJD. Muslim is a community and muslim votes are communal votes, not secular vores.

Thanks.

Bravo. you have aptly ponted out that muslim votes are muslim votes and thy are not secular votes. If a muslim vote or christian vote is ecular so is secular Hindu vote. i do not know why thse reporters or journalist what ever they are not understand they the difference between secular & communal. India is a secular country & that's why all religions are flourishing. Hindus's are secular too, because it's their religious tolerance & respect fpr all religions which has allowed all these religons to spread. It's time that these reporters start thinking independently and not divide the country more by rporting nonsense.

Are all your articles equally well researched? From where did your correspondent get the info that adivasis constitute 71% of the population of Jharkhand? Perhaps all his reporting is done while on flights only. Perhaps he never cares to alight. For your information, adivasis form around one third of the population.
As for the main contention in your article, during the lok sabha polls people were fed up with the elitist policies of NDA. They didn't vote for the love of Sonia or Soren whose nepotist policies they despise, but only against NDA. After UPA came to power, people have realised that it is no different from NDA as far as its anti-poor economic policies are concerned. Therefore, this stalemate.
