Bihar amazing lallu losing ground
by achuta ramaiah somayajula on Feb 17, 2005 12:55 PM

Sir
Lallu came up during the students struggle launched by JP who triggered the anti emergency role of Indira.Lallu did survive and the underdogs like dalits and yadavs (did have implicit faith in him) in providing support to dalits from the uppercastes. well-- he did well on the security aspect. But the then the poor people now want financial muscle- which i am afraid Lalalu would not be able to provide unless bridges are made with centre and other states. The fact that he would fail on this count would make him fall. But I bet that the other candidates like Paswan who are winning must not think he is finished-mainly because he speakes the language of the lower castes and dalits- unlike mayavati etc... He is too clever to be defeated may be in politics but he knows how to bounce back ! Like he did when he made Rabri the CM to the consterantion of the centre when they thought he was finished. He is too clever for the urban politicians becuse like Gandhi he is too shrewd
who turned the screw on the British at Champaran farmers. Lallu may be defeated but would certainly bounce back in a short time.May be all of us are forgetting that the real power and finance are in the village

by Ranjan on Feb 15, 2005 01:22 PM

After reading this article I'm very much convinced that our beloved rediff news editors are totally out of touch with reality and just serve news which makes the upper caste fellows happy...

Why not Education?
by annonymous on Feb 14, 2005 06:25 PM

It makes me wonder if at all Bihar is a part of India, and if you think it is then certainly India cant say that its progressing. I believe that education is fundamental right of every human living on this earth which has been overlooked so far in our rich and cultural land. I agree the dominance of yadavs and like them make it impossible for the centre to do anything concrete for the development but then hasn't this gone just too far. The country is huge and there are way too many problems, the responsibility is not only on the Government but on private sector industries in this area. Cant they come up with a scheme to change the situation, I mean cant they provide Education?
I dont know much about Bihar but would like to, after all its a part of my country and there has to be a change, its just too long to allow dominance of few illeterate politicians.

by Vijay Kumar Gupta on Feb 14, 2005 05:32 PM

this is second time i am trying to write something earlier i started but deleted those lines and thought nothing could be done. I am a sahu bihari agonising and lamenting the state of the bihar but i am a escapist and this is not the case with me only, every person looking for a carrer outside bihar tries not to be a part of this dirty business.
I am from danapur cantt and closely watched laoo and yadavs.
Just penning down some age old facts doesn't throw him out. Who has got guts to fight goons, i tell you no one.
And this time also he'll be a winner with big applause. No matter what these peolpe says he will again be a winner, if something can really stop him then that is polling without any rigging and i know no one on this earth can stop him from rigging.
I don't know who will wash these dirty linens but i know i am not that one becoz i am a escapist.

Just imagine how those people vote lalu and Rabri...Really not to blame on Lalu and Rabri..Its just a shame to the people of Bihar to have leaders like this!!...They need Self-Education//...Only time has to answer..Nothing can match Buddhadev and JyothiBasu, other state people has to learn from such dynamic leaders of all times.!!

Dear Sir
You are forgetting Bihar and its people. They are the underdogs who come to Cal in thousands to earn which the Bengalis find it difficult to do -the menial labour and still you abhor them . They do the jobs refused by the Bangaldeshi Muslims and Hindus (being lazy). Still they are poor and come to big cities like Cal to earn money for their parents in the villages. And again we urban people in Cal and other big cities sneer at them and call them junglis. Well we are forgetting that all of us must share the national wealth. Gandhi asked us to start from the villAges and make them propsper to spend their money in the cities. But we all went the other way we built cities like Cal etc enticing the villager Biharis and then take pride in sneering at them . Forget about Budhadev etc.. Bengalis must stop poking fun at them and then see the improvement and applaud if only we reverse the progress cycle -villages to cities and not cities to villages. We missed the bus sure but let us reverse and see india take the world by storm
Pl do not sneer at them. Don't forget lord Buddha came from there and Mugadh the golden age -Ashok etc. came from there. So sir pl do not sneer.

Why Bihar is not developed in 58 years?
by DSK Rao on Feb 14, 2005 03:43 PM

The article points out the chaotic situation after 15 years of the Lalu's/Rabri rule. What needs to be analysed is why a state with a rich mineral wealth and which once boasted of the best educational system rotted to this level. For 58 years the state did not develop? Are we to ask ourselves the fundemental question that 'Is democracy the correct system for this country?'. Should a Military government or some other form tried for some time? The common man definitely has lost hope in the political system, but unfortunately is too timid & oppressed to revolt
