Truth must prevail

I think our democracy must allow public debates about issues like the Godhra carnage which must not be repeated. And the best forum for such a debate can be the time when it matters the most, the time of election. Rather than stopping parties from putting forward their points, the democratic process must allow discussions as important as this which can tarnish the country's image with punity causing damages much more serious than that the CIA or ISI are capable of doing.

The Gujarat riots can not be defended, irrespective of the fact whether the S6 compartment of the ill-fated Sabarmati express was burnt by Muslim extremists, accidental fire or Hindu suicide terrorists (it was only few weeks before the carnage that a Hindu suicide terrorist threatened the nation to illegally conduct some puja in the disputed land at Ayodhya). But space for a healthy discussion of this issue should not be blocked at the most pertinent time when the people are going to decide who should represent them. The election Commission can surely act against misinformation, but NOT as an information filter.

EC's Inefficiency In Bihar Elections
by Saurabh Jani on Feb 12, 2005 05:51 PM

It seems that Office of Election Comission is nothing but purely non volatile entity that has to execute elections with hand cuffs in their hands. All they can do is notice given here and there. But haven't heard any action been taken, specially in recent bihar elections. It seems RJD is violating and EC ends up giving notice.

If one wants to understand Gujarat then he has to come and see it live. If this methodology of defaming other states start then slowly the mental attitude of patriotism towards country will start deminishing and statehood patriotism will begin.

Such things have to stop with immediate effect. EC should take such things seriously and act irrespective of any party or individual for good and fair elections to take place.

Bihar: Shame on Indian scenario!
by aaadwakar on Feb 12, 2005 04:14 PM

It is better for RJD & any party that during state elections, Issues relating to the state must be highlighted & no politicization of past national or other issues to be done.
