Rival power centres.

Rival power centres and caucus politics are not new to congress. In 1969 itself, the organisation congress wanted Mrs Indira to be a puppet PM and Indira Gandhi was shrewd enough to drive them and the great split of Syndicate congress and Indira congress came into existence. The same thing could have happened, had Sonia Gandhi become the P.M. Congress leaders might have thought that they could have influenced Sonia and also side-lined her. But, wisdom prevailed on Mrs Sonia in not accepting the offer and making one among them to occupy the seat. No doubt Manmohan Singh might have to face problems in a near future from his partymen, but since he is Sonia's man, things will not turn bad.
