Foreign origin issue closed by the people of India!
by B.Gautam on Jun 20, 2004 01:30 AM

Mr. Naidu, people of India voted your party out of power due to failure to lift the large number of them in pain and dismay! No amount of your lectures and talks can help them , they have learnt now! Under these circumstances, when massive mandate have been given by the majority of them of this country, I don't think your retaining the issue open will matter to any one except to you and possibly those few around you!

Foreign origin issue?? Making a non-issue a big issue cost you guys dearly, besides others fundamental issues BJP has as a fascist organization trying to implement its hindutva on the masses and running the country on British ideas of divide an rule. With hindutva the majority of people are the losers!! Grow up hate mongers!!

Foreign origin as an issue?
by Dr A.Jagadeesh on May 13, 2004 06:26 PM

Dear Rediff:

Mr.Venkaiah Naidu seems to be still sleeping when the whole world is awake to the realities that NDA has been routed from power and that the Indian Electorate overwhelmingly voted for Mrs Sonia Gandhi.Mrs.Jayalalitha , Mr.Chandrababu Naidu and Mr.Modi in Gujarat paid heavily making the foreign origin issue as a major one in their election campaign. In a democracy the Government is of the people,by the people and for the people. The very fact that Mrs Sonia Gandhi has been married to Shri Rajiv Gandhi sets aside the foreign origin issue. Are not Indians holding positions in Government in USA,Fizi and other countries? Why the foreign countries did not ban it?

It is high time Mr.Venkaiah Naidu,Mr.Modi,Mr.Pramod Mahajan,Mrs Sushma Swaraj,Mr.Ashok Jaitly and others stop fooling people by this foreign origin as People endorsed Mrs.Gandhi as the leader to become Prime Minister.

Dear sir

CITIZENS OF FOREIGN ORIGIN-DISQUALIFICATION UNDER CONSTITUTION OF INDIA
TO BECOME LEGISLATORS

Articles 102 and 191 (identical provision) of Constitution of India enumerate the grounds for disqualification for membership of Central and State Legislatures respectively. Clause (1)(d) of the said Articles deals with some of such disqualifications. It reads: if he is not a citizen of India, or has voluntarily acquired the citizenship of a foreign State, or is under any acknowledgement of allegiance or adherence to foreign state;. The said Constitutional provisions places an embargo from being Members of Central and State Legislatures, even if they are citizens of India if they have voluntarily acquired the citizenship of a foreign State, or is under any acknowledgement of allegiance or adherence to foreign state. It is crystal clear that If a citizen is having allegiance or adherence to a foreign state they cannot become Members of Central and State Legislatures and even if they become they cannot continue as Members.

Simple word allegiance mentioned takes care of a catastrophic situation of people of foreign origin entering our Legislatures. From ordi
