It will be horrifying
by Akshay on May 06, 2004 10:52 PM

God forbid, if the speculation of third front Govt. becomes true it will be the repeat of horror story , with PM' changing every six months and election every year. Third front has too many ambitious people without any disciplin and agenda. Who knows even SP sees a split with upper cast MPs led by Amar Sing support NDA or even congress. It seems Mulayam is never happy with anything, be in congress , BJP or (after a few months) third front. Dear Mulayam, please take care of our state UP. Even there you have been a failure. Because of people like you , UP doesn't see a stable govt. It's called BEMARU state. You haven't even been the state CM for a year and you started eying for PM. You have not done anything for state called UP. Go take care of UP and if you can do something than only think about it.

Chosen paths are often misconceived.
by chanakya on May 06, 2004 12:04 PM

The spirit with which the "secularism" was woven into the constitution of this Bharat Varsh has already evaporated soon after the constituent assembly completed its sacred job.

New definitions that have emerged since the first general elections took place are by and large deliberate misinterpretations for acquiring politcal mileage and an easy access to power.

Although congress won by some good majority, their governments were largely representative of the minorities, and can well be literally labelled as minority governments.Majority foolishly stayed away from voting.

This has proved to be irrestiable even for a party like BJP which has made unpardonable compromises with its saffron specifications.

Even Mulayam is no exception.

As a matter of fact, their interpretation and the consequent implementation causing serious implications to the silent majority are highly provocative.

Unless the politicians mend their ways and return to the very spirit of secularism as was originally woven into the constitution a day is likely to come in not too distant a future when this time bomb would explode to an extent beyond imagination.

Politicians know but wd not admit.

Mulayam

Mulayam Singh Yadav is to be solely responsible for the rise of BJP. If Congress had toppled the UF government, Mulayam's SP paved the way for return of BJP-led government by refusing to vote for non-BJP forces in 1997.
In the recent past, it is his government which refused to blame Lalji Tandon ( neither by arresting him nor by blaming him) and thus implicitly backing the BJP. He welcomes the NDA allies that are at home in joining or severing links with BJP. Aren't they more communal than Congress.
Lohia, Mulayam's Guru, was the main campaigner for Deen Dayal Upadhyay in 1963 bypoll from UP. M K Gandhi once told Lohia to be anti-communal first before talking of socialism

Probably Mulayam now understand that it's tthe congress which he has to fight with. BJP/BSP votes almost remain the same , coz of cast and relegion politics, which still is the mainstay of UP politics. And this time around his liaison with BJP is open secret. In this election he has never been too vocal against BJP. Even the Tundon opportunity (sorry to call this a opportunity, but that's how we have become)is missed, while congress really capitalised the same. I see this election as fall of Mullayam. I wish coongress become the major force in UP again , for the benefit of UP. But probably that will result in fall of UP govt. which nobody wants at this stage. All we are concerned about is UP, it has to get it's place not just on the political stage but as developing state. People are it's advantage in politics, so will they be for it's development also. But the govt. need to promote a good education at primary level , still english introduced at class 6th . They need to take care of roads. They need to take care of irrigation. We need some young dynamic brash leader , who can attack the likes of Mullayam. These people who know so much about UP , are hopeless people . We need a hope

Mulayam and Secularism ?
by Anand Rajadhyaksha on May 06, 2004 01:01 AM

I wonder if these people really understand what secularism really is. Their candidates are fixed by caste and community equations, their relationships are based on communities, where does secularism come in?

The EC should ban parties that bandy the word "secular" and field candidates on community and caste lines.
