Opinion Polls

Even before EC could decide, here goes one of the fast opinion polls! Be this a homework or genuine, even if NDA gets 250 there is a scope for a "constructive" third-front!

BTW, usually positive exit polls during the preliminary phases against the NDA could as well dampen their hopes. So there is a level-grounding for both sides yet so far.

Opinion Poll 2004
by Dr. Tirath Garg on Mar 27, 2004 09:34 PM  | Hide replies

Though Zee poll may be quiet broad based exercise but this time all surveys and opinion polls are going to be belied. Prime Ministership is not going to be a cakewalk for Vajpayee or Sonia. A new person will emerge and there will be so much of political uncertainty because of fractured mandate that the life span of 14th Lok sabha is going to be less than half. Political arithmatic is going to be hotch potch
Hot favourites BJP is going to get between 145-150 and is not going to cross 150 mark by any means.
NDA allies will get between 68-72 seats (present allies)
Prospective allies of NDA between 20-25 seats (Those who deserted NDA will return + few others)
Underdogs Congress is going to emerge as single largest party with 170-175 seats.
Pre Poll allies of Congress will account for 50 seats (Dravidian parties, RJD, NCP, LJSP of Paswan, PDP +small parties)
Left Front with 45 members will hold the balance along with SP of Mulayam
SP + allies (LD of Ajit Singh) will account for 30 seats.
BSP with 10-12 seats will be most sought after party along with Independents and others.
So keep the fingers crossed and pray for the President who will face most difficult times.

biased

Zee TV's poll is biased as I have been following their news coverage of NDA and congress parties. Usually when they talk about sonia and her children or the congress they project a better picture and want the listener to believe what good things they are saying about these people. However their coverage of the NDA components is only negative or atleast they want the listener to take what they say with a pinch of salt. 99 percent of the coverage of advani,
's rath yatra didn't show a crowd shot whereas it is the opposite for sonia's road show. They want to project sonia is receiving a larger response.
I believe acnielsen more than subhash chandra's Zee and hence I think the NDA will get over 300 seats.

Poll Surveys? Different criterias different results.
by Ramesh Kapoor on Mar 27, 2004 08:50 PM

In the last three days two different polls have appeared on the web and news. The first was NDTV/Indian Express showing the NDA bagging anything between 280 and 308 seats, while the Zee News is coming up with a figure of 265. Zee News analysis also show with independents of 70 odd seats, and with the Congress party getting 196 seats, a definite tilt in the favor of the Congress. So, can we expect to see Sonia Gandhi as the next Indian Prime Minister? Zee answers it well saying 51% of the voters still favored Atal Behari Vajpayee. This is a double speak and, in my opinion, the survey is faulty and meaningless. While NDTV survey covered a vast majority of the constituencies and people. To go with that, it would appear the NDA is expected to get anything over 280 seats. As for the Congress party president, Sonia Gandhi, becoming the Prime Minister, different scenarios have been picked up of NRIs in other countries making up the ladder to Premiership or Presidencies. They are not NRIs, but people of Indian Origins. Fiji, Trinidad Tobago, Guyana, Mauratius, etc. have Indians who are third or fourth born generations and any comparison with Sonia Gandhi a naturalized Indian would be wrong

It is important BJP win
by shivi on Mar 27, 2004 07:26 PM

As an NRI I have seen India's reputation climb exponentially since BJP took office. The nuclear tests were a start. It got the world to take notice that India will not sit and let treaties dictate the defense of its borders. Then came opening of the markets. From Mcdonalds to IBM, all started making inroads in the Indian market and all that news reached here in North America.

People saw pictures of sadhus drinking coke. The age old impression of India being the land of black magicians and snake charmers was changing.

This was followed by Vajpayeeji's sincere effort to restore peace, the Agra summit where he invited Musharraf. But I gues Musharraf wanted to test Vajpayee's will to fight so he went back then Kargil happened. 4000 brave jawans died but Vajpayee and NDA responded and respond they did. Pakistan also lost thousands and the shame was evident when they refused to pick the body bags carrying their own martyrs.

Then came outsourcing. I can go on but it is important the BJP-NDA return to power. Political stability is what will get jobs to India. Congress will not be able to bring about peace or political stability. India is well protected under Shri Vajpayee.

Media loose it's 'shine' with these futile excercises!!!!!
by d.k.sengupta on Mar 27, 2004 07:08 PM

Two different pool-views by the media on the same day
as per the media-competition,one wants to superceed
others.Although NDTV-Express were advertising their
survey for quite sometimes, with a vast canvas but zee
hurriedly done with a micro-canvas ,to give the viewer
a completely different projection. This is just a trend
and during next 3/4/5 weeks, the volume of Ganges-water
will flow and situation will change drastically either
for and against for any party, hence these 'hum-buck' of the media must stop forth-with to safe-gaurd their
image.Big-mouth "Kapil" too was very upset with the outcome and immediately the first thing he did,to ask
the SP to come to form the so called 'secular-front'
under any circumstances,to same-gaurd Congress from the NDTV's desastarous projection of the pre-pool
survey. This type of Tele-cast gives the demoralising
effect to already un-organised Congress....in other
side NDA may feel complacency to make diasater out
come thereafter....SO MY DEAR PLEASE DO NOT 'CONFUSE'
THE ELECTORATE WIOTH SO CALL 'OPINION-POLLS'
