Yeah, so Advani antagonized Coimbatore. Dont all politicians do that. How infantile of you, Nadar, to tell us something we knew for ages. I suggest, for the sake of fairness, that you tag along with Sonia and see her "people-friendly" campaign strategy, and give us a first-hand report, complete with the gory details of her "friendly" campaign. Or are you another mindless BJP baiter?

Advani alienates Coimbatore voters.
by A. Ranganathan on Mar 16, 2004 08:50 AM

The wrier has hit the nail on the head when saying that Shri. Advani is travelling around as a BJP FUNCTIONARY and NOT as DEPUTY PRIME MINISTER. There is absolutely no reason or logic in the State exchequers spending crores of Rupees in free unhindered transit and security for him.
Our Ministers, Politicians and Bureaucrats often go on foreign jaunts, ostensibly to study how other countries are run ( and of course to do shopping). Why have they not noticed that in no country in the Western world, traffic is STOPPED so that a high dignitary can have a free road.
Of course there will be security escorts, motorcycle outriders, et al. But never a citizen is prevented from going about his work. And to prevent students writing their most important examination which will open the way for their future, is, to say the least, shameful.
Advaniji, I hang my head in shame that you allow this to be done and then speak about India shining !!

COIMBATORE'S SHORT MEOMRY.
by J.N. Kini on Mar 16, 2004 07:18 AM

Wonder since when the people of Coimbatore are suffering from short memory. They must be very well aware of what happened when Advani was in their town last. Moreover, probably none of them were in Chennai, at the peak of LTTE threat to their own Amma, and the way people and traffic were huddled up whenever Amma wanted to use a particular Road. As for the Purser and Airhostess, well, were'nt they aware of any news publication regarding security measures during Advani's visit? Or for that matter the students who were to take their HSC Exams.I as an outsider am by now used to driving through the traffic barricades whenever I traverse through Coimbatore. If at all any had to be blamed, it is Coimbatore Police and not Advani or BJP (I could'nt care less).I remember way back in 1970s, when JP's death was announced at JJ Hospital in Mumbai late afternoon, the only reaction from my driver was the possibility of " Jaam " on Peddar Road and our having to take the inner road on our way to Airport. Well, that probably how it dmakes the difference between a Mumbaikar and others.

Advani's visit
by George HJ on Mar 16, 2004 01:35 AM

Advani's visit to the city not only was a nuisance in terms of security but made us Coimbatoreans feel like we were in alien country, ironically this is the place I was born and brought up in and the thought that I was stopped and searched at five different points on my way to work from home which incidently is only 10 kms apart. It was such a disgrace to see people from all walk of life pleading with the securitymen on guards to let them pass through alternate routes. One cannot blame the securitymen on duty here, they don't have an iota of understanding of respect for a person. Please note, not only the arterial roads but many other diversions were closed too. Buses would either be stopped at vantage points indefinetly or the trip would be abandoned midway causing untold hardships to them. If there is so much risk on one's life why take the risk? Will there ever be a day when a citizen can smile proudly reflecting the sense of responsibility his leaders have towards him? C'mon friends, 'India is Shining', yes indeed, not because of anything these politicians did, but because of the hardwork of farmers, doctors, engineers, archietects, bankers, people of the country.

What a big deal?
When thousands have to wait for,AMMA's entourage, every nook and corner , You make Advaniji's yattra, something unheard of. We Tamilians used to such waiting..for ration items, Bus stop... electric trains...yes more importantly before the state owned wine shops..Advaniji is only getting his training from reverenceful AMMA, ofcourse, for his coming coranation (sorry, adalji!!). So ,why are you blaming him...?

is such stupidity necessary?
by C Srinivas on Mar 15, 2004 11:39 PM

wonder why progressive leaders such as Advani need to adopt such anti-people, stupid yatras..and all in the name of democracy...the problem is congress with sonia is a horrible option...so i guess i will have to vote for NDA. But such actions causing inconvenience to general public is intolerable..so i guess i will change my mind and vote for congress
