I think this is a very fair article, and I am happy that our ecection commision is doing the right thing, otherwise every tom, dick and harry or in our case every lallu, naidu or gandhi will contest. Good job guyz
I would assume that the EC would be for regulating the election procedures rather than trying to cover up the election cost from the naive candidates who couldnt win 17% votes. What it sounds like is to discourage people for whom it is not quite affordable to lose Rs 10000 and to avoid more paper work such aggressive policies are practised. The EC is supposed to be the thrust of the right of people to stand up as a candidate rather than them having to take such economic risks. The criteria of an MP suggest that the person standing up for it should be bankrupt, but doesnt suggest the person has to anyhow give up their well being in order to fight an election in a free country. It surely does kill the ideology of giving as much pressure to the ruling party or get as much diversity in the parliament so we have a politically corect administration. Its a shame that the largest democracy is such brutal so as to cover the mere 0.5% of a Rs6 billion election.I m sure to get a good leadership the people of India wouldnt mind to share that small cost.Instead the people who get elected should be paying the cost. They are the people who are going to be with a fixed income for five years.Cheers
Do we wait for the Centenary of the independence or the Republic.so that Voters will exercise their franchise on Candidates,Policies et. al. instead of Clock,Commode etc.
