Surrender for sure.
by I comment on Mar 14, 2004 08:09 AM

To be fair to this guy, he has atleast accepted that he has surrendered to the BJP. Although, albiet intentionally he fails to elaborate to what he has surrendered. The muslims are definitely in a bad shape irrespective of the reasons of their downfall. Anybody who has read good history would know of a glorious era of the past when the good Muslims ruled and that too with justice. So I don't see a reason to believe that the conditions of muslim will only improve if a "progressive muslim" (read coward) joins a "progressive" (read hypocrite) party. It is for laymen to see what BJP as a party did in Gujarat and what its leaders said and keep saying. There is a obvious contradiction there. How can you expect that same party to do any justice with muslims or for that matter, minorities in India.
I agree that apparently the congress today is not an option for the "progressive muslim" but the BJP is no different either. BJP is a power hungry party and Mr. Khan seems to be a power hungry politician. In contradiction to his own acceptance there is apparently no real surrender. It is nothing but as the old saying goes...
Birds of the same feathers flock together.

The noble spirit of ?Surrender?
by Giri Girishankar on Feb 26, 2004 07:52 PM

It looks like it is the season for noble initiatives. Arif Khan has concluded that he has to take the initiative to bring about a change in the communal relations between the countrys Hindus and the Muslims. Earlier, Vajpayee took a similar step in the matter of Indo-Pakistan relations.

Arif would like to see that the Muslims are not treated any way differently from the Hindus. He would like to bring about that change by working with the BJP and developing a mutually tolerant and understanding attitude and behavior between the two communities. Apparently, he has realized that the concept of secularism, constantly lectured by certain political parties, has only further separated the communities. It is time to genuinely try a different tactic. His motivation is noble; he wants to see Muslims and Hindus learning to live as friendly neighbors without any fear. Therefore, he has joined the so called Hindu party and decided to work from within. We can only hope that the BJP will eagerly give him all the support he needs and that the Muslim community will come out to join the Indian mainstream. It could be the dawn of a new era in India.

We wish Arif Khan all the success

Journalism grow up
by Chakravarthy on Feb 25, 2004 07:20 PM

Why should such a issue be made in a democratic country where everyone have some reights. Arif has an insight and some agenda for India. Let him try his best.
Now my point is when will journalism in India become constructive? Didn't that interviewer have better questions or does he just want to ignite communal tensions and want to dance by its fire?

changing times

Mr. khan before joining BJP u r in congress.so u r the only muslim leader to visit gujarat.then why r u pointing fingurs towards others?.u congress people brought sonia gandhi into politics forcefully. After enjoying power all politicians joining winning parties. Now look at karunakaran even after becoming CM,union minister&Member of parliament for so many times with congress party's support, behaving like a rebel leader instead of leading from the front(not president-guiding younger people).Same case with Najma heptulla.
Her complaint is that sonia has not congradulated!!!
I think congress or voters should ditch all these power hungry leaders. After 5 years they may leave bjp & join some other party.
people should not elect people above the age of 75 years.
Arif mohammed khan should not be elected or nominated to the upper house if bjp win the poll.

Our politicians are so oppurtunistic and power hungry that that they never bother about their community.Mr Khan has mentioned that he is following the example of Sir Syed.I ask Mr in what way u r following him.He was not a power hungry political leader but a great academician. His point of view was that we should learn sciences even from the Britishers.he never said that the muslims should accept the invaders politically.

I ask Mr Arif what you have done for Gujarat Muslims?R u doing something for the education of riot trodden children or the people which are still in camps, or for the people whose business has been destroyed?

U have the right to join any party but please for Allah's sake "Don't call yourself a muslim,if u r shaking hands with their biggest enemies".
