This request is not surprising. What is surprising is that the EC still permits convicted gansgters to actually stand for positions within the government. Every individual seeking a job with a company has his background checked, and if there is a criminal history, he is not given the job. Why then should the law be any different when it comes to politics? Positions within the state and central governments too are responsible positions, which can definitely do without people serving time contesting for them. Unless of course all Indians are so blind not to see this fact. What is the judicial system and the EC doing about this? I think no one with a criminal background, and specially people serving time should be permitted to contest for any positions within the Indian democratic system. But then, who cares!!! What a pathetic state of affairs.
