Rahul's M.Phil in 9 months! A Barber-training takes 2 or more years!
by srinivas on Jun 09, 2004 01:30 AM

Will the Rediff get all the particulars about Rahul Gandhi's entire education to set at rest all the wild speculations.

Was he ever at Harvard? What was he doing there? What course did he do in Delhi Stephen? How did he get admission for M.Phil. at Cambridge? By merit or push?

Without all the relevant details, a mere assertion that he underwent a 9 months' course to earn his M.Phil. Degree at Cambridge doesn't make him stand tall before our eyes. We too are highly educated in a proper way.

Why are some blocking the investigation by crying foul? What's wrong in anyone questioning the candidate's credentials? They are public men & they need to answer.

Bring Mr.Rahul in public & make him answer. Later, he can take up his mom's mantle in AICC.

We're NOT here to HERO-WORSHIP ANYONE! WE ARE MASTERS. WE PAY THEM. Remember it!

another scenario on Rahul's MPhil
by miyako on May 06, 2004 12:42 PM

In some British universities, you can get an MPhil even PhD without having a BA/BS diploma. How does this happen? during the graduate admission process, they read your college transcript, your experience, and other backgrounds. Let's use Rahul's case. Maybe Rahul got an A in all his economics courses/subjects at Harvard and maybe failed in English and Sciences, thus he was not able to earn a Harvard undergraduate Diploma. Maybe he had good letters of recommendation from his economics professors, who are Nobel Prize winners in economics. Maybe Rahul had impressive research activities related to economics while he was at harvard. Maybe his work at a financial firm at london was considered a related experience. Maybe he wrote in his application essay a convincing desire in his part to help for the economic development of India. with all these maybe's, Cambridge university admission committee would definitely consider rahul a good candidate for their MPhil program. Usually they require this kind of students to write long papers or take seminars and courses related to their fields before they start MPhil/DPhil program. Cambridge MPhil is not easy. And economics is not so so.

About Rahul's MPhil
by miyako on May 06, 2004 12:14 PM

In some american universities like Harvard University and Yale, you need to earn a B- average grade (after calculating all the courses you have taken) before you graduate. Maybe Rahul got a C+ or a C. If this is the case, Rahul could not get a Harvard Undergraduate Diploma but he will get a transcript of records listing all the academic works he took at Harvard. Is rahul considered a graduate of Harvard? Nope. Is he a harvard-educated fellow? yes.
There are lots of Harvard students like Rahul-- kids from all over the world. Some enroll in degrees like Religion or Literature not really becuase they want to study Buddhism or that they love reading W.H. Auden. They are after of the University name-- Harvard.
Now, how could Rahul and other harvard students like him get an undergraduate diploma, a requirement for MA/MS/MPhil/PhD/DPhil? Simply, they transfered to a so so university like University of Massachusetts or Northeastern University in Boston. In these schools, a C grade from Harvard is considered a B+ or even higher. Maybe they only took a couple of courses to complete their undergraduate degrees at these so so universities.

Sir,
Extremely interesting & educative indeed that Rahul just jumped from H S C to a Post Doctoral degree, without bothering about Bachelor's & masters Degree !!
Now why doesn't Rediff repeat the same exercise with Cambridge University & find out how his Mom got HER Doctorate in English literature before Matriculating !
We see & hear her expertise in the field of English oratory day in and day out these days !!

Rahul's MPhil
by Nida on Apr 22, 2004 02:27 PM

Since rediff has taken extra effort to find the truth about Rahul Gandhi's degree, there's a suggestion.. why doesnt rediff do a study and let the public know the criminal & corruption degrees of various "politicians"- Narendar modi, togadia, raja bhaiya, mayawati, advani - conveniently getting himself a clean chit in babri masjid case). Today nobody can beat BJP in corruption. BJP is solely responsible for those uncountable civilain deaths in gujarat

Mphil?
by Dinesh on Apr 21, 2004 11:58 PM

I understand from Cambridge University website that MPhil is one year course after undergraduate (needs additional diploma if subject is not major). This Mphil is not like Indian universities' MPhil which comes after Masters. Here, MSc comes after this MPhil, in some cases this is the eligibility for Masters.
But, it doesn't look like a 'casual study', one should be fairly intelligent.
When an illiterate can become successful politician why not Rahul? There is no sense in this contraversy.
But the fact is Rediff tried to highlight only the bright side of it without defining what this MPhil means.

A slap for BJP

The BJPs collective degrees may not equal Rahuls MPhil in Development Economics. The only degrees the BJP have are communal hatred, corruption, scams, misgovernance and resoluteness to cling to power.
