Sonia & Co
by K.Nair on Apr 14, 2004 04:17 AM

Sir,

This lady, Sonia Gandhi, at least for the time being ,is heading a major political party(or rather, used to be a major political party). Although it so happened that a member of the Nehru family married her, she and her children can ,in no way, claim the Nehru family heritage, either by culture, by religion, by attitude, by character or even political awareness(other than vicious mudslinging). Any body who occuppy such a position should be throughly investigated, regarding character, behaviour and origins which have severe implications in India's politics and even national security. All reports and revelations about her are purposely vague and lacking in details. I hate to mention some of the things I heard about her back ground.

I hope rediff will strive to bring to light the facts, before it is too late.

K. Nair

why drag foreign issue of sonia when lal kishen advani had also roots from sindh.farooq abdulla has double citizenship and so is omar who is british national and was holding a cabinet post.it is unfair to treat sonia like this.then one could go to other extreme and atal ji cannot be prime minister because he is a bachelor.or george fernandes elloped wife of former chief secretary of jk state mrs jaitley.PLEASE TREAT SONIA AS AN GRACEFUL INDIAN LADY AND SHE CAN ASPIRE TO BE PRIME MINISTER IF ELECTED

Annie Besant's Congress, and not Cong (I) fought for Freedom

I was surprised to read Sonia Gandhi's allegation that BJP had no role in Freedom Struggle. She seems to be under wrong notion that her mother-in-law fought against the British for making India free.

Elders like me who know History of last 55 years, know very well that it was Indian National Congress formed in 1885 that led the country in Independence Struggle, and had the courage to tell the British to "Quit India ". That was done at a time when the whole World believed that SUN never set on British Empire.

Sonia- eligible to contest in the elections?
by S Rajkumar on Apr 13, 2004 11:01 PM

Sonia Gandhi may be foreigner, but is eligible to contest for elections in India on attaining citizenship. But the experience of Indians are whoever happen to be a foreigner by birth, race back to their country and there is every possibility of shunning the Indians. Should we take a risk at this stage? As to whether Sonia Gandhi did not take citizenship immediately is definitely a personal wish, because she has the right to decide when to do so. But the major factor is that since there is a controversy involved round her on Bofors, should we not wait till it is proved? In the interests of Indians, it is best to elect and Indian. This is because, an Indian has all his family and relations in India and shall not think of moving out of the country. But a foreigner can always think of moving away from India to his/her motherland. In such a situation, the sincerity may be lost. Hence please think over and do what u feel is right. These are my views.
