Yeah It is a step in right direction, even though it is irritating to sentiments an important community in country, I would like to suggest that we should take some more holidays off the calendar like martyrdom days of Freedom Fighters, after all they didn't sacrificed their life so that one billion people can just sit around and waste a day in front of TV or just doing gup shup, We are making a mockery of their sacrifice.
Hello, I am from Santa Cruz, California. Good Friday is not a holiday even here, all though this is a totally christian country? Then why should we have it in secular india?

Thats becoz there are no Vote Bank Politicians in the US...
Good Friday in Gujarat will be a Restricted holiday. It hasn't been taken off the holiday list. This means State Government offices will remain open. Christian employees can make use of their restricted holiday and observe their rituals.
Why should their sentiments be hurt if State govt employees who are not Christians come to work? It seems everyone's ego has become very fragile. Everyone is looking for a reason to feel hurt, so that they can childishly exhibit their hurts and gain other's sympathy.
The Gujarat government has shown the way ahead. All religious festivals except major ones (for logistical reasons) should be declared restricted holidays. Only the national festivals should be general holidays.
